CPU Frequency, Power, and Temperatures
The information below is taken from HWInfo64, which takes the information from the motherboard and CPU sensors. A 10 minutes loop of Cinebench R23 was used to load the system.
HWINFO64’s CPU package power readings show 239.1w using Intel’s default power limits and 271.36w while using MSI’s default power settings. Most of the time, the increased power consumption from the MSI settings increases performance. On rare occasions, it has the opposite effect but not by a large margin.
Unsurprisingly, the MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk DDR4 WiFi couldn’t sustain the higher clock speeds for very long. However, it is worth noting that the spikes in clock speed are slightly higher on the MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk DDR4 WiFi than on other boards we’ve seen in the past. Although, its average clocks were slightly lower than say the 4,548MHz we saw on the ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z690 APEX.
The CPU temperatures are virtually identical to what we’ve seen from this exact CPU on other motherboards. We are at the upper limit of what our MSI 360mm AIO can reliably handle. Cool down in between testing was necessary to avoid throttling. This issue is something we’ve seen before on previously tested motherboards using the same cooling system.
