Gameplay Performance – 1080p

We are going to focus on the 1080p gameplay performance with the AMD Radeon RX 7600 video card on this page. Ray Tracing will be covered on the following page.  We will include DLSS and FSR performance on the same graph in the games that are supported.  We will use DLSS on NVIDIA GPUs and FSR on AMD GPUs.  For video card comparisons we are using a GeForce RTX 3060 12GB and Radeon RX 6600.

Returnal

Returnal was launched on the PC in February of 2023 and is based on Unreal Engine 4. The game supports real-time ray tracing effects, particle systems, and volumetric rendering. We utilize the graphics preset to set EPIC graphics settings with unlocked framerate, and everything is enabled except ray tracing, we have screen-space reflections on. We use the built-in benchmark.

Returnal 1080p Performance Graph

In Returnal at EPIC graphics setting and 1080p resolution, the new AMD Radeon RX 7600 offers a playable gameplay experience at over 80FPS. Compared to the previous generation Radeon RX 6600 the new Radeon RX 7600 brings a healthy 25% performance uplift at a cheaper launch price. Compared to the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB video card the new Radeon RX 7600 is 16% faster and at a cheaper price point. FSR can also increase performance in this game, increasing it by 28% and bringing performance up to over 100FPS. Compared to FSR performance on the previous generation RX 6600 the new RX 7600 with FSR is 20% faster.

Forspoken

Forspoken was released on January 24th, 2023, on the PC and uses the Luminous Engine. The game supports all upscaling methods and Ray Tracing. We are going to customize the settings and enable the highest graphics settings, including Ultra High Texture Memory. We use the built-in benchmark.

Forspoken 1080p Performance Graph

In Forspoken we have some interesting results. The AMD Radeon RX 7600 barely allows a playable experience at 1080p and with the Highest Quality Settings, it averages 57FPS. In this game we also have the High-Quality textures turned up to maximum. While this average framerate is playable, there are some scenes in the benchmark that drop into the 40s or upper 30s. However, what is also clear is that the performance uplift from the previous generation is also very large in this game with the new Radeon RX 7600 versus the previous RX 6600.

The new Radeon RX 7600 is 24% faster in this game versus the previous generation Radeon RX 6600. Therefore, we are getting nearly the same performance uplift that we saw in Returnal here, it is just that this game is more demanding. We do see the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti 12GB perform 9% faster than the Radeon RX 7600, but keep in mind the price difference as well, the RX 7600 is much cheaper, by 18% MSRP, so with that in mind, the Radeon RX 7600 is doing very well against it. We can also enable FSR which improves performance by 19% and smooths it out in those rough scenes of this game. Alternatively, you could lower the settings or the texture setting from the highest value.

The Callisto Protocol

The Callisto Protocol was released in December of 2022 on the PC and is based on Unreal Engine 4. We run the game in DX12 mode with unlimited framerate, and all graphics settings enabled and at the highest graphics settings. This game supports ray tracing, and FSR upscaling only, we use FSR2 for testing. We use the built-in benchmark.

The Callisto Protocol 1080p Performance Graph

In The Callisto Protocol, the new AMD Radeon RX 7600 performs very well, providing 60FPS gameplay at 1080p with the highest quality. The Radeon RX 7600 offers a smaller 10% performance advantage over the previous generation Radeon RX 6600 in this particular game. Again, we are running the highest texture settings, and backing down on resolution may create more separation between the video cards. The Radeon RX 7600 is 3% faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB. Enabling FSR can add 14% more performance and brings it up to 70FPS at max settings at 1080p.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II was released on October 27, 2022, on the PC and uses the IW 9.0 gaming engine. The game supports all upscaling methods and we use the highest quality option of each. We customize every graphics setting to the maximum value for the best image quality and enable everything. We use the built-in benchmark.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare II 1080p Performance Graph

In Call of Duty Modern Warfare II the AMD Radeon RX 7600 offers a great playable gameplay experience at over 100FPS average with maximum games settings at 1080p. This is a whopping 39% performance uplift versus the previous generation Radeon RX 6600! It is also 42% faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB! Not bad for a video card that costs less than the RTX 3060 12GB. FSR also adds 37% more performance.

Chernobylite Enhanced Edition

Chernobylite, based on Unreal Engine 4, was released on the PC in 2021, but the Enhanced Edition update for the game was released in April 2022. The Enhanced Edition provides a visual overhaul of the game with better textures, plus introduces tessellation and ray tracing features. It features raytraced reflections, raytraced translucency, raytraced caustics, and raytraced dynamic diffuse global illumination. It supports upscaling, and we use the highest quality. We use the built-in benchmark.

Chernobylite Enhanced Edition 1080p Performance Graph

In Chernobylite Enhanced Edition has high-quality textures, and we are running the game at maximum game settings at 1080p. The new Radeon RX 7600 allows a very playable experience at 95FPS and matches performance with the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB which has a larger framebuffer. We can see that the Radeon RX 7600 offers a healthy 34% performance upgrade versus the Radeon RX 6600, yet costs less at launch.

Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 was released in February 2022 on the PC and uses Techland’s C-Engine.  The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, and FSR2.  We use the built-in preset to set “HIGH QUALITY” which sets the highest game graphics, without Ray Tracing.  We manually enable DX12 and ASYNC Compute.  We use the built-in benchmark.

Dying Light 2 1080p Performance Graph

In Dying Light 2 at 1080p, and the highest quality settings, the Radeon RX 7600 takes a big lead and allows well over 100FPS while gaming. The Radeon RX 7600 ends up providing a 31% performance uplift versus the previous generation Radeon RX 6600, yet, at a lower price. Compared to the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB the Radeon RX 7600 comes out on top again providing 15% higher performance over it. FSR also adds 36% more performance.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 was released in December 2020 and uses the REDengine 4. We have the game patched to version 1.62 and utilize the built-in benchmark. We test using the Graphics Preset option to set graphics settings to “Ultra”.  We utilize the highest quality upscaling.

Cyberpunk 2077 1080p Performance Graph

In Cyberpunk 2077 the new Radeon RX 7600 allows a more than playable gameplay experience at 1080p with “Ultra” settings at 86FPS, which is pretty amazing for the price. This ends up being a pretty large 37% performance upgrade over the previous generation Radeon RX 6600, again, at a lower price. Compared to the GeForce RTX 3060 12GB the Radeon RX 7600 is 20% faster. FSR also adds 20% more performance.

SUMMARY

We reviewed the AMD Radeon RX 7600 video card and tested it at 1080p, with ray tracing, and FSR in games. The price to performance ratio was very high with this video card, providing an excellent value with competitive performance and a competitive price point. It is built well, and cooling was sufficient, with a higher power utilization compared to the previous generation. It still lacks in ray tracing performance compared to the competition, but its raw performance, and sub $300 price point is appropriate for a video card aiming for a 1080p gameplay experience.
