GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 GAMING OC Video Card

Introduction

In this evaluation, we are testing the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 GAMING OC 8G video card.  This card represents the lower tier of video cards in the RX 7000 series from AMD and is directed primarily at 1080p gaming resolution.   AMD released the RX 7600 video card on May 24, 2023.  Our in-depth review of that card is located here.  The GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 GAMING OC was released on May 25th, 2023, and is a custom video card based on that platform but offers a factory overclock,  an improved WINDFORCE triple fan cooling solution, and subtle RGB lighting.

GIGABYTE doesn’t need a whole lot of introduction.  They are a leading manufacturer of numerous PC components, including AMD-based video cards.  As we write, the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 GAMING OC is the only model of RX 7600 the company offers.  The SKU# is GV-R76GAMING OC-8GD and the label name is Radeon RX 7600 GAMING OC 8G.  The 8G denotes 8GB of VRAM.

In the product line-up of the RX 7000 series, GIGABYTE has chosen to offer the Aorus Elite, GAMING OC GAMING, and the Radeon RX. The Aorus is the top-of-the-line and is only available in the 7900 XTX. The GAMING and GAMING OC are the majority of cards offered and the Radeon RX represents a strictly reference design.

The GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 GAMING OC  is designed from the “GAMING” line of GIGABYTE video cards.  These generally are equipped with a more robust “SCREEN-COOLING” heatsink and triple fan  WINDFORCE cooling solution.  The PCB is fashioned in keeping with GIGABYTE’S ULTRADURABLE brand.  They include a full-length slotted backplate and subtle RGB lighting on the top edge of the card and also carry a factory overclock.  The AMD reference Game Clock is 2250MHz.  The GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 GAMING OC is clocked at 2356MHz out-of-the-box.

We received a full retail package from GIGABYTE.  The warranty period is listed at 3 years.  Currently listed on Amazon, the price is $259.99 and includes a free copy of the standard edition of Starfield.  The AMD-listed reference board MSRP is $269 at AMD.com/shop, so it is actually cheaper at the time of writing. The video card was received well-packaged.  The outer shipping box was quite dented, but this was most likely due to shipping, but everything inside was fine.  There was a small crush mark on one corner of the box, again due to shipping, but the inner box and foam protected the video card well.  This card is composed of a full-length upper plastic shroud which has three 80mm WINDFORCE fans.  Each fan has 11 blades which are uniquely slotted.  The fans spin alternatively, the outer anticlockwise and the middle clockwise.  The heatsink is full length and is a direct heatpipe contact heatsink.

Just underneath the PCIe connector is a small LED that will light up if you do not have the connector firmly placed.  The backplate is a full-length style, solid gray with black letters. The rear portion is open for air output.    The upper shroud is dark and light grey.  There is an RGB “GIGABYTE” logo on the top side of the card.

Overall the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 GAMING OC is on the small-ish side.  The card measures 11 x 4 x 2 1/8 inches, weighs 1 pound 14 ounces, a 2.5 slot card. There are 2 x HDMI 2.1 and 2 x Display Port 2.1 outputs on the front. The video card is powered by one 8-pin PCIe connector, as was stated an LED will light up if you don’t have a good connection or forget to plug in.  The minimum power supply is listed as 550 Watts.  The lighted logo RGB is programable through the GIGABYTE  RGB Fusion software download.

SUMMARY

In this review we evaluated the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 GAMING OC video card. GIGABYTE has produced a very well built video card with excellent cooling. The performance of this video card is unfortunately lacking compared to the competition. This does not imply that the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 GAMING OC can't run games at all. It simply falls short nearly every time, by a considerable margin on average.
