AMD has released its source code for FSR 3, and with it comes a new mod that allows GeForce RTX users to test out any title with NVIDIA DLSS 3 using AMD’s own implementation of Frame Generation.

Here’s how players can get the mod running, per instructions shared by mod author Nukem9 and users on reddit:

  • Own an Nvidia RTX graphics card with updated drivers.
  • Ensure Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling is enabled in Windows Settings.
  • Install this mod in your game directory.
  • Launch your game and disable vertical sync (V-Sync) in the settings menu. Then toggle frame generation.
  • This will result in screen tearing. To restore vertical sync and keep frame generation working properly, open Nvidia Control Panel, navigate to “Manage 3D settings”, and enable “Vertical sync” for your specific game.

And here’s a video from the MxBenchmarkPC channel that shows off “Cyberpunk 2077 AMD FSR 2.2 Quality vs NVIDIA DLSS 3.5.10 Quality vs NVIDIA DLSS 3.5.10 Quality + FSR 3 Frame Generation at 1440p with Path Tracing and Ultra settings on i7 10700F + RTX 3080”:

“It is of higher quality because you can use DLSS upscaling instead of FSR upscaling and also doesn’t have the HUD flickering issue,” explained Neegzm, another YouTuber who shared a Frame Generation benchmark for Cyberpunk 2077 that shows off greater frame rates:

“I’m using DLSSG to FSR3, as you can see Frame Generation is still greyed out but it’s marked as enabled so the mod should be working (never got more than 60 FPS in the game anyway so I think it is),” said ShyVortex, who tested the mod with Alan Wake 2.

“FPS boost wise I’d say it doubled my framerate,” they added, although players have been warned that they may encounter crashing and other issues, including a problem where changing the game settings may disable the mod, requiring a restart.
