Gameplay Performance 4K
On this page, we are going to focus on the 4K gameplay performance with the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER video card. 1440p and Ray Tracing performance will be shown on separate pages.
Alan Wake 2
Alan Wake 2 was launched on the PC in October of 2023 and is based on the Northlight Engine. The game supports detailed graphics and ray tracing with path tracing support. This game defaults to DLSS or FSR but does allow Native AA resolution settings with DLSS or FSR respectively. We can utilize Super Sampling upscaling, and for our graphs, we will just call that DLSS or FSR. We utilize the graphics presets to set High quality, as well as the Ray Tracing presets to set Low or High quality. We use a manual run-through in the Initiation 5: Room 665 chapter.
In Alan Wake 2 the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER allows a playable gameplay experience at 4K, for this slower-paced game without upscaling. We find that at 4K the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is 12% faster than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and just about the same performance as the Radeon RX 7900 XT, with only a 1FPS difference. When we overclock it, performance increases by 7%.
Starfield
Starfield was released on the PC in September of 2023 and is based on the Creation Engine 2. This game supports DLSS and FSR as well as Dynamic Resolution. When using upscaling, Dynamic Resolution is enabled, and we utilize the 75% slider option, which is the default setting when Ultra settings are applied. We are using the highest Ultra settings in the game for all testing, and for upscaling, we use the highest quality settings. We use a manual run-through in the New Atlantis area encompassing all areas.
In Starfield the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is playable right under 60FPS, and we find it is 12% faster than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti at 4K. However, the Radeon RX 7900 XT seems to be faster at 11% over the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER. When we overclock it, performance increases by 7%, but is just under the Radeon RX 7900 XT in this game at 4K.
Returnal
Returnal was launched on the PC in February of 2023 and is based on Unreal Engine 4. The game supports real-time ray tracing effects, particle systems, and volumetric rendering. We utilize the graphics preset to set EPIC graphics settings with unlocked framerate, and everything is enabled except ray tracing, we have screen-space reflections on. We use the built-in benchmark.
In Returnal the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER has no problem providing a playable experience of nearly 80FPS at 4K. It ends up being 12% faster than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, but we do see the Radeon RX 7900 XT outperform it by 5%. When we overclock it, performance increases by 5% and now equals the Radeon RX 7900 XT in performance.
Forspoken
Forspoken was released on January 24th, 2023, on the PC and uses the Luminous Engine. The game supports all upscaling methods and Ray Tracing. We are going to customize the settings and enable the highest graphics settings, including Ultra High Texture Memory. We use the built-in benchmark.
In Forspoken the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is very playable at 68FPS at 4K without needing upscaling. We find that it is 17% faster than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, the highest difference we’ve seen yet. It and the Radeon RX 7900 XT perform exactly the same. When we overclock it, performance increases by 7%.
Chernobylite Enhanced Edition
Chernobylite, based on Unreal Engine 4, was released on the PC in 2021, but the Enhanced Edition update for the game was released in April 2022. The Enhanced Edition provides a visual overhaul of the game with better textures, plus introduces tessellation and ray tracing features. It features raytraced reflections, raytraced translucency, raytraced caustics, and raytraced dynamic diffuse global illumination. It supports upscaling, and we use the highest quality. We use the built-in benchmark.
In Chernobylite Enhanced Edition every GPU works great at 4K in this game, providing a smooth and playable experience. The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is sitting the highest at nearly 100FPS at 4K without upscaling. It provides 15% more performance over the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti and 14% over the Radeon RX 7900 XT. Overclocking it improves performance by 6%.
Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 was released in February 2022 on the PC and uses Techland’s C-Engine. The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, and FSR2. We use the built-in preset to set “HIGH QUALITY” which sets the highest game graphics, without Ray Tracing. We manually enable DX12 and ASYNC Compute. We use the built-in benchmark.
Dying Light 2 can be demanding, but the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER puls in with over 80FPS at 4K without needing upscaling for super smooth performance. We find that it is 14% faster than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. However, the Radeon RX 7900 XT does edge it out on performance by 6%. When we overclock it though, performance increases by 7% and now matches the Radeon RX 7900 XT.
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 was released in December 2020 and uses the REDengine 4. We have the game patched to version 2.0 and utilize the built-in benchmark. We test using the Graphics Preset option to set graphics settings to “Ultra”. We utilize the highest quality upscaling.
Cyberpunk 2077 struggles at 4K “Ultra” on the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, the game is not playable without upscaling. You will have to enable DLSS in this game, but then performance is very smooth and enjoyable. We find the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is 14% faster than the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. However, the Radeon RX 7900 XT seems to be a lot faster in this game at 15% faster than the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER. Even when we overclock the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER the Radeon RX 7900 XT is still faster, but the overclock does increase performance by 7%.
