Power and Temperature
To test the power and temperature we perform a manual run-through in Cyberpunk 2077 at “Ultra” settings for real-world in-game data. We used GPUZ sensor data to record the results. We report on the GPUZ sensor data for “Board Power” and “GPU Chip Power” when available for our Wattage data. For temperature data, we report the GPU (Edge Temp of the GPU) as well as the Hot Spot (Junction Temperature) when available for our temperature data.
Power
This chart shows that during our RTX 4070 Ti SUPER default and overclocked bench run-throughs, we push the power envelope right up to the maximum of 285 Watts. In fact the overclock is able to surpass the maximum at 288 Watts with no help from extra voltage or power slider. This shows the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER WINDFORCE OC 16GB is squeezing as hard as it can against the limits. Our GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Ti uses 20 WATTS less. The XFX Speedster MERC 310 RX 7900 XT Black Edition draws the most power by 61 WATTS or 20%.
Temperature
From our prior reviews, we know that the XFX Speedster MERC RX 7900 XT Black Edition and the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Gaming OC are full-sized video cards with very robust cooling. The XFX card was actually one of the best we have reviewed. It is no surprise then when we look at the temperature chart. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER WINDFORCE OC 16GB in these benchmarks is running on “automatic” and has a smaller-sized heatsink (comparatively) and 80mm fans. The temperatures are not overly hot while 20% higher. The fans are nearly silent as well. That’s not bad right there.
When we forced a higher fan cycle the temperatures were: GPU 57C and “Hot Spot” 68C which is right at the larger GIGABYTE RTX 4070 Ti performance. Excepting, the fans were set at 90% and were very noticeable. They weren’t “blow dryer” loud, but still unacceptable. That said the performance is there if you want it. The lower temperature did not improve the performance.
Above is the GPUZ sensor data. The default video card settings are on the left and the overclock on the right.
