Gameplay Performance with Ray Tracing
In this section, we continue at 2560×1440. We keep all the settings the same, but now enable Ray Tracing in each game, both with and without upscaling.
Alan Wake 2
We now see how tough the ray tracing can be. Only our overclocked GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER WINDFORCE OC 16GB can rise over 50FPS which is very marginally playable. There is a 14% advantage over the GIGABYTE RTX 4070 TI Gaming OC and a 50% margin over the XFX Speedster MERC RX 7900 XT Black Edition. Upscaling is necessary here and still, the XFX Speedster MERC RX 7900 XT Black Edition is bested by 40%. The upscaled game is nicely playable however for the RTX 4070 Ti plain and SUPER cards. Overclocking will boost by about 6%.
Returnal
This game is smoothly playable without upscaling. The results are much closer. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER WINDFORCE OC 16GB is still the quicker card by 2 and 8%. Upscaling improves the already good result by 30%. Overclocking gains only 4%.
Forspoken
Forspoken is again quite fast even with ray tracing enabled. There is only 1% between the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER WINDFORCE OC 16GB and the XFX Speedster MERC RX 7900 XT Black Edition. The GIGABYTE RTX 4070 TI Gaming OC is 7% further back, but again all the video cards have a quick, smooth FPS here. Overclocking gains 4% and brings the upscaled FPS even with the XFX Speedster MERC RX 7900 XT Black Edition.
Chernobylite Enhanced Edition
This is a wonderfully detailed game best enjoyed in ray trace. The FPS is quite playable except for the XFX Speedster MERC RX 7900 XT Black Edition. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER WINDFORCE OC 16GB has a 7 and 35% edge before upscaling. All the cards are nicely playable in upscale. Overclocking gains 5%.
Dying Light 2
We have fully playable results across the board here. this is excellent as the game is graphically detailed. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER WINDFORCE OC 16GB enjoys a 7 and 30% margin here, which is preserved in upscaling where the FPS is very quick. Overclocking gains just 4%.
Cyberpunk 2077
There still isn’t enough muscle to make the game playable without upscaling. The XFX Speedster MERC RX 7900 XT Black Edition suffers the most 30% off the mark. Upscaling does the trick though, nicely. Overclocking is of minimal help here.
