Unreal Physics is a new game from Jilted Generation Productions that aims to demonstrate the stunning abilities of Unreal Engine 5. Described by its developers as an “immersive 3D physics sandbox and demo collection”, Unreal Physics is a game that gives players the chance to see what Unreal Engine 5 can do. Unlike more recent demos that focus on just ray-traced effects or RTX, Unreal Physics showcases fluid dynamics, environmental effects, and, of course, destruction.

Per YouTube description:

“Unreal Physics is a free-to-play exploration of in-game physics like never before, this dynamic 3D sandbox features a mesmerizing collection of demos, showcasing stunning visuals and realistic simulations. It’s a playground of endless possibilities where creativity meets the cutting edge of physics technology.”

The indie developer is in the early stages of making its first actual game, Slaughter Cats, of which there are some glimpses in this demo/game. That game is a side-scroller platformer also listed on Steam. A quick visit to Jilted Generation Productions shows that they have a sense of humor and seemingly spoof the many auto-generated product websites that are often filled with fake testimonials, but the ones on the home page may be real, maybe, just maybe. Checking their social media pages shows ongoing posts for Slaughter Cats, but also the announcement of Unreal Physics, which is now available for free on Epic and Steam.

Per Steam:

  • “This unique experience combines the cutting-edge FluidNinja and Chaos physics systems to deliver a mesmerizing showcase of fluid dynamics, destruction, and realistic simulations.”
  • “Fluid Dynamics Unleashed: Witness the incredible power of FluidNinja as it brings fluid simulations to life in ways you’ve never imagined. Whether it’s the graceful flow of water, the mesmerizing realism of smoke, or the viscous flowing of molten lava, the fluid dynamics in this sandbox will leave you in awe.”
  • “Chaos Physics on Display: Brace yourself for a revolution in destructible environments and realistic physics simulations with Unreal Engine’s Chaos Physics. Experience the sheer thrill as structures crumble, debris scatters realistically, and chaos ensues in response to your every action. The level of destructibility will redefine your expectations of in-game physics.”

Per Jilted Generation Productions:

  • “Experience – We have 50,000 years of experience”
  • “Technology – We know lots about computers and stuff”
  • “Games – We’ve played lots of games so we probably know things”
  • “Clean Work – We try to be good to the environment so we always clean our desks after lunch”

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
