Gaming Performance (Al-Do)
In our game performance testing, we are utilizing an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 FE video card. We are running each game at 1080p, Native Resolution, and we are using mostly the highest game settings. However, in Clair Obscur, we have lowered the game settings. We are using manual in-game run-throughs for each game and reporting the average FPS and 1% Lows. It is important to note the 1% Lows in many instances, especially in those where the AVG is close; the 1% Lows may not be. All games are running the latest versions. All graphs are organized from fastest to slowest by AVG.
Alan Wake 2
This is where the rubber meets the road, gaming. We can clearly see that the Zen 5 X3D CPUs are superior in gaming performance to the Zen 4 X3D CPUs. Not only is the average framerate faster, but more importantly, the 1% Lows are drastically improved with Zen 5 X3D. The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 7% faster than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D in average framerate, but it is 28% faster in 1% Lows! The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is only 1% faster than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D in average framerate, but in 1% Lows it is 5% faster than the 9800X3D. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is 4% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D. If we compare the fastest to the slowest, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D is 12% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D in average framerate and 42% faster in 1% Lows!!
Battlefield 6
Battlefield 6 isn’t as drastic as Alan Wake 2 was, but we can still see an increase in both the average framerate and the 1% Lows for Zen 5 X3D over Zen 4 X3D. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 1.4% faster than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D in average framerate, but 6% faster in 1% Lows. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is 1% faster than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D in average framerate and 1.3% faster in 1% Lows. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is 1.4% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D in average framerate and 5% faster in 1% Lows. Comparing fastest to slowest, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D is 4% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D in average framerate and 13% faster in 1% Lows.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the average framerate is rather close between the video cards, but the 1% Lows show a measurable difference. Though the Ryzen 7 7800X3D is on top in average framerate, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D has the fastest 1% Low performance. This game is rather GPU-limited, even at the High quality preset. Comparing the 1% Low performance, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D is 2% faster than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D have similar 1% Low performance. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D is the slowest CPU, technically.
Crimson Desert
In Crimson Desert, it is very important to look at the 1% Low performance, since the average frame rates are very close between each CPU. The 1% Low performance is actually very different here. We can see that the Ryzen 7 7700X3D and Ryzen 7 7800X3D have the lowest 1% Low performance. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Ryzen 7 9850X3D drastically improve 1% Low performance in this game. Comparing by 1% Low performance, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Ryzen 7 9850X3D are 10% faster than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D and Ryzen 7 9800X3D are 20% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D.
Cyberpunk 2077
In Cyberpunk 2077, we can see clear advantages in performance as we move up the stack. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 4% faster than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D in average framerate and 5% faster in 1% Lows. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is 8% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D and 6% faster in 1% Lows. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is 2% faster than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 4% faster in 1% Lows. From fastest to slowest, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D is 15% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D in average framerate and 16% faster in 1% Lows.
Doom: The Dark Ages
In Doom: The Dark Ages, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 5% faster than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. The Ryzen 7 7800X3D is 3% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is 1% faster than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D is 9% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D.
