Bloober Team (Medium, Observer System Redux, Blair Witch) has given a new gameplay video for its upcoming Layers of Fear remake. The new video provides some familiar sights while showcasing a newly unveiled character and how the game will look. The Layers of Fear remake is built using Unreal Engine 5 and will feature Lumen, Ray Tracing, HDR, volumetric lighting, and Niagra light rendering. The developers appear to have attempted to keep as much of the look and design of the original 2016 game while updating it for modern technology while adding a few new things along the way. Layers of Fear releases for PC and next-gen consoles in June 2023.

A new Unreal Engine 5 update aims to further alleviate the bane of immersive gaming; stuttering that is caused by asset loading. The system 5.2 update builds upon a pre-caching feature called PSO Caching that was added in 5.1 and has been further improved upon. Highlights of the Unreal Engine 5 PSO Caching update include system stability improvements, objects are no longer drawn before PSOs are available, optimizations for the number of precached PSOs, and improvements to the previous manual method of PSO caching allowing it to be used with the new pre-cache system.

Rolls-Royce has been given £2.9 billion (~$3.52 billion) in funding for its bid to install a nuclear reactor on the moon by 2029. The funding follows another £249,000 (~$302,000) that had been provided to fund a study for the proposed project. The UK Space Agency says the micro-nuclear reactor is very small and about the size of a car and would provide power for a variety of applications. The mobile power plant could be used for generating power to create water, and oxygen, charge vehicles, provide heat and keep technology operating when solar cannot be used. Rolls-Royce and the UK Space Agency are also collaborating with a number of universities to develop communication and navigation services for missions to the moon as part of ESA's Moonlight program that will put satellites in orbit around the moon.

Fans of The Abyss and True Lies may finally be tempted to throw away their DVDs, VHS tapes, and/or Laserdiscs soon. Speaking to The Digital Bits during a press event at his Lightstorm Entertainment offices, Jon Landau, producer of the Avatar films and one of James Cameron's closest collaborators, confirmed to the publication that the director's 1989 sci-fi film and 1994 spy action comedy with Arnold Schwarzenegger should finally be released on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray this year, and not only that, they'll be joined by 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray versions of Avatar and Titanic as well. The Abyss and True Lies have never received a Blu-ray release (at least, not outside of Spain), and while Blu-ray versions of Avatar and Titanic are already available, fans should be able to revisit those classics relatively soon in glorious 4K and HDR. Avatar: The Way of Water will also be getting 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray releases this year following its digital debut on March 28.

There's isn't much to complain about when it comes to Microsoft's Xbox Wireless Controllers, but there's a new option on the horizon for those who are feeling nostalgic for the company's older hardware. Hyperkin, a gaming hardware development company that specializes in consoles and accessories for multiple generations of gamers, has announced that the Xenon, its replica of the official Xbox 360 controller, will be available for purchase beginning June 6, 2023, for $49.99. Licensed with Designs for Xbox and compatible with Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PCs, the Xenon features some welcome upgrades from the original design, including Menu, View, and Share buttons, as well as a detachable Type-C cable. Hyperkin has confirmed that it will begin taking pre-orders for the Xenon through the Hyperkin Store on May 5.

GIGABYTE already has eight custom GeForce RTX 4070 Ti graphics cards to offer, but it appears that the leading manufacturer has made room for at least one more. According to a new listing that can be found on the company's official website, GIGABYTE is planning to release a new model called the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti WINDFORCE OC 12G that features a brand-new design, headlined by a black shroud that could be ideal for those who are seeking a GPU with more of a reserved aesthetic. A list of specifications can confirm that the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti WINDFORCE OC 12G features a 2,625 MHz core clock (just 15 MHz higher than reference), 3x DisplayPort 1.4a, 1x HDMI 2.1a, and a length of 261 mm, and while there doesn't seem to be any word yet on how much it'll cost, GIGABYTE's GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Series appears to start at $799.99 (EAGLE).

The world has just lost another awesome actor. As reported by TMZ, Lance Reddick, famous for his roles in HBO's The Wire and the John Wick movies, has died at the age of 60. Reddick's passing has been a complete shock to fans, as the actor seemed to be pretty healthy in recent days, having attended various press events to drum up excitement for the new John Wick movie opposite Keanu Reeves, but while his cause of death is currently unclear, law enforcement sources with TMZ suggest that he had died of natural causes. John Wick: Chapter 4, which releases on May 24, will mark one of the late actor's final film credits, and he will also be fondly remembered by gamers for his voice work in hit games that include Destiny 2 and the Horizon series.

The original Gladiator seems impossible to live up to, but its chances appear to have gotten a little higher thanks to the addition of a surprising cast member. According to sources with Deadline, Denzel Washington, one of today's greatest living actors, is in final negotiations to co-star in the sequel to Ridley Scott's Oscar Best Picture winner for Paramount. Scott is returning to produce, and while Washington's role remains under wraps, he'll be joining Normal People star Paul Mescal, who was locked for the project earlier this year to play Lucius, the son of Connie Nielsen (Lucilla) and Joaquin Phoenix's (Commodus) characters. Denzel Washington and Ridley Scott teamed almost 16 years ago for American Gangster, a 2007 biographical crime film that saw Washington take on the role of Frank Lucas, a gangster who got rich off of smuggling heroin. Russell Crowe, who is best known for playing Maximus in Gladiator, co-starred in the drama, which has a 7.8 rating on iMDB.

Resident Evil 4 won't be out until next week, but it appears that Resident Evil fans will have a pretty good time with the game. The first reviews for Capcom's latest survival horror remake began rolling out today, and the majority of them appear to be quite positive, with some critics describing it as one of the best and satisfying remakes ever, featuring superior visuals, gameplay mechanics, and more. And while some of the tougher critics have claimed that the remake can't hold a candle to the original, which remains one of the greatest games ever made, that hasn't stopped Resident Evil 4 from being ranked the #1 best PC game of 2023 so far on Metacritic, where the game currently sits with a 92 Metascore. Resident Evil fans who want to get in some shooting practice with Leon ahead of the game's release on Friday, March 24, can grab the Resident Evil 4 Chainsaw Demo, a free trial that offers what Capcom has described as a thrilling slice of the game.

That's a question that Ubisoft Québec seemingly couldn't make up its mind about, as the latest rumors for the studio's new Assassin's Creed game set in the long-requested location of Japan, Assassin's Creed Codename RED, suggest that players will be able to play as either, similar to Assassin's Creed Origins, which also featured two unique characters in the form of Kassandra and her brother, Alexios. Assassin's Creed Codename RED will also supposedly have a huge focus on stealth gameplay, and while Ubisoft never did elaborate on who was being shown in the teaser trailer from the Assassin's Creed: 2022 Showcase, sources claim that it's the game's samurai, who is a female.

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics cards are known for having pretty great coolers, but it looks like one company really wants to blow the competition away. MAXSUN, a Chinese manufacturer that has been in the hardware game since 2002, has shared a teaser video on Bilibili for new GeForce RTX 40 Series graphics cards that feature not two, not three, but five fans. Dubbed Mega Gamer, both GeForce RTX 4080 and GeForce RTX 4070 Ti options appear to be planned by MAXSUN, and while neither appear to be listed on its official website yet, some of the company's current Ada Lovelace options include the GeForce RTX 4080 iCraft OC Limited 16G and GeForce RTX 4070Ti iCraft OC. The latter is available in a purple option that could work pretty well for a Neon Genesis Evangelion build.
