The GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER

This is the slide that was shown on July 2nd, it doesn’t really give us a lot of information about the GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER.  From it we know that it is supposed to be faster than the TITAN XP, have very fast 15GHz memory and 89 Tensor TFLOPs and 11+11 TOPs (FP32+INT32).  What is it really though?  Finally, we can show you the full specs and performance.

The GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER is based on the full TU104 GPU.  It has 48 SMs versus 46 on GeForce RTX 2080.  This means the RTX 2080 SUPER has 3072 CUDA Cores versus 2944 on RTX 2080.  That’s only 128 more, or 4%, which is not a lot, but there are other elements.  Both video cards have 64 ROPs.  However, RTX 2080 SUPER has 192 Texture Units versus 184 on the RTX 2080.  The new RTX 2080 SUPER also has more Tensor Cores and RT Cores, it has 384 Tensor Cores and 48 RT Cores versus 368 Tensor Cores and 46 RT Cores on RTX 2080.  It also has a faster clock speed; the base clock is now 1650MHz versus 1515MHz on the RTX 2080.  The boost clock on the new RTX 2080 SUPER is 1815MHz versus 1710MHz on the RTX 2080.

Both the RTX 2080 SUPER and RTX 2080 use 8GB of GDDR6 on a 256-bit bus.  However, the clock speed is much different.  The new RTX 2080 SUPER boosts the memory clock speed to 15.5GHz versus 14GHz on the RTX 2080.  At 15.5GHz this is the fastest stock clocked GDDR6 memory yet.  This brings the memory bandwidth up to 496GB/sec versus 448GB/sec on the RTX 2080.  The TGP is 250W on the new RTX 2080 SUPER versus 215W on the original RTX 2080.

The icing on the cake is that this video card is $699, which is a whole $100 cheaper than the GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition. In terms of performance keep in mind that the GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition has an overclocked boost clock compared to the regular RTX 2080.  The Founders Edition runs at a boost clock of 1800MHz versus 1710MHz.  This means higher sustained GPU Boost on the RTX 2080 Founders Edition.  IN our review today we are using a GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition to compare with, not the standard RTX 2080, we are using the Founders Edition, which runs faster.

These pictures are provided by NVIDIA.. The video card we have for review is the Founders Edition RTX 2080 SUPER, nothing about its clock speeds are different from the specs above.  The video card measures 10.5” in length and has a complete solid heatsink, shroud and metal backplate and is very robust in the hand.  This video card requires one 6-pin and one 8-pin power connectors.  It also has NV Link atop.  It supports two DisplayPort and two HDMI connectors as well as USB.
