Call of Duty Modern Warfare

We are using the newly released game, Call of Duty Modern Warfare.  We are utilizing custom game settings that we have manually selected for the resolution tests.  This game runs in DX12 API.  For our evaluation, we are using a manual run-through in the first section of the campaign.  We move from the helicopter drop, call an airstrike on the town below and work our way all the way through the town taking out the baddies.

Apples-to-Apples Custom “Highest” Settings

Similar to Red Dead Redemption 2 we have gone to customizing this game’s settings.  In this first graph we are using what we call the highest in-game settings.  We have basically turned on everything to the highest value.  We have AA at Filmic SMAA T2X.

This game performs a lot better than Red Dead Redemption 2, but it can still struggle in some places.  At 1440p it is not playable at these settings.  However, moving down to 1080p the game is actually playable.  It’s not super smooth 60 FPS, but at 51 FPS the minimums can drop into the upper 30’s at time.  However, 720p is definitely playable at the highest settings!  That’s the real sweet spot there for the game’s highest settings. The overclock helps about 5% in this game.

Apples-to-Apples Custom “High” Settings

For this graph of performance, we have customized the game settings to a “High” graphics setting.  Basically, we have notched down every graphics setting one level to a “High” level instead of the highest.  We still have everything turned on, just a notch lower than the maximum levels which still provides great visual quality.

Now setting the graphics down to “High” has done wonders for this game.  It now allows 1080p to be very playable!  We are averaging 60 FPS at 1080p and the minimums only drop into the 40’s at times.  720p is even way smoother now at 91 FPS average.  We would not call 1440p playable at all though.

Playable Settings

Just by turning this game down one notch on each setting to “High” has allowed this video card to play it smoothly at 1080p.  Therefore “High” settings at 1080p is our preferred highest playable settings.  However, if you want maximum game settings then 720p will allow this on this video card.
