Default GPU Frequency

Before we begin game testing or overclocking, we must first wee where the GPU sits in terms of GPU frequency and other settings.  In this section, we will explore the default GPU frequency while gaming and compare that to the quoted boost clock speed.  We will look at GPUz information and overclocking utility information.

Default GPU Clock Frequency

In the graph above we are looking at the real-time real-world GPU frequency while playing a game.  This is the default GPU frequency.  The quoted gaming frequency for this video card with the factory overclock is 1737MHz.

For the positive, this video card is boosting beyond the quoted factory overclock gaming frequency.  It isn’t quite hitting the maximum boost of 1845MHz, but it is well above 1737MHz staying between the 1807-1827MHz range while gaming.  That means that this video card is operating well, and above the expected performance of the factory overclock out-of-the-box.  There is no throttling going on at all.

GPUz

Note, though we are using the most recent release of GPUz it may still be reporting some figures incorrectly.  We got word from AMD that there is a clock speed bug that is reporting incorrect clock speed figures on some third-party utilities.  It is just an appearance bug, it doesn’t affect performance.

Here you can see the voltage is 1.137V and it spins the fans up to 36% to achieve a GPU package temp of 72c and a GPU hot spot temp of 87-88c.  The GPU only Power Draw it detects is 108W.
