Sony has revealed that it is holding a special “PlayStation 5 Showcase” event on Wednesday, September 16 at 1:00 p.m. PDT (4:00 p.m. ET). The event is intended to show off more about PS5’s upcoming first-party and third-party titles, but everyone seems to have made up their minds about this being the day that the next-gen console’s price will finally be unveiled.

That makes sense. Microsoft announced the prices of the Xbox Series X ($499) and Xbox Series S ($299) on Wednesday, so it’s time for Sony to step up and fill in the final pieces of the PS5 puzzle. We’ve been hearing rumors that the company has been forced to revise its original pricing plans due to the competitive costs of the next-gen Xbox consoles, so things should be very interesting. Could we be looking at a $499 PS5?

“Before PlayStation 5 launches this holiday, we wanted to give you one more look at some of the great games coming to PS5 at launch (and beyond!),” Senior Director of SIE Content Communications Sid Shuman wrote. “Our next digital showcase will weigh in at around 40 minutes, and feature updates on the latest titles from Worldwide Studios and our world-class development partners.”

“Tune in live on Twitch or YouTube this Wednesday, September 16 at 1pm PDT / 9pm BST / 10pm CEST to see what’s next for PS5.”
