Red Dead 2 – GR Breakpoint – Far Cry 5
Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 has proven to be a graphically intense game since its introduction. For this game, we are running in the Vulkan API and using the benchmark. To set our graphics settings in this game we manually adjust each setting instead of relying on the profile, which doesn’t have a pre-determined static setting. We go through all the standard settings plus the advanced settings and set everything to “Ultra” or the highest level it supports. We also turn everything on, except MSAA. This tests the game very well with maximum graphics quality.
1440p
We have the game set at 1440p with the highest in-game settings and the GeForce RTX 2080 FE and 2080 SUPER hover in the mid-’50s. Only the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE got us above 60 FPS, until now. The new GeForce RTX 3080 FE brings us up to over 80 FPS. That is a 60% improvement for the RTX 3080 FE over the RTX 2080 FE and 25% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti FE.
4K
At 4K the GeForce RTX 2080 FE and RTX 2080 SUPER FE is nowhere near playable. Even the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE struggles. However, the GeForce RTX 3080 FE does not, giving us near 60 FPS at 4K at maximum settings. That’s 69% faster than the RTX 2080 FE and 27% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti FE.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint
For Ghost Recon Breakpoint we are using the built-in benchmark. The game has a maximum setting of “Ultimate” and so that is what we are using.
1440p
This game does run very well at 1440p even on the GeForce RTX 2080 FE at “Ultimate” preset. The GeForce RTX 3080 FE is faster than the RTX 2080 Ti FE. It is 55% faster than the RTX 2080 FE and 23% faster than the RTX 2080 Ti FE.
4K
Ghost Recon Breakpoint utilizes a lot of VRAM. It has a VRAM counter in the benchmark, and for any video card that is 8GB and under, it shows that the VRAM is exceeded at 4K “Ultimate” settings. Therefore, on the RTX 2080 FE and RTX 2080 SUPER FE, the VRAM is exceeded according to the benchmark. We also see very low performance from those cards. However, with the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE and GeForce RTX 3080 FE, the VRAM is not exceeded, both cards have plenty according to the game for this setting.
The GeForce RTX 3080 FE is 86% faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 FE and 32% faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE. At 82 FPS at 4K with “Ultimate” settings this game looks incredible, and that performance is super smooth.
Far Cry 5
We are including Far Cry 5, an older game, on purpose and for a reason. Far Cry 5 has been known to be a rather CPU limited game, besides Flight Simulator 2020, we wanted to include a past game that was very popular and well played, and also doesn’t support any advanced 3D features, it is DX11 only. It’s simple in graphics, and as we know CPU dependent. The only thing it does have is an HD Texture pack, which we did download and apply. This game should be a good representation of an older game’s performance when it comes to the GeForce RTX 3080 FE.
1440p
This result is exactly why we wanted to include this game, to show you. In a game or resolution or game setting that is more CPU limited, the GeForce RTX 3080 FE cannot stretch its legs and fully be realized. It still ended up being the fastest video card, but the margins are narrower. The GeForce RTX 3080 FE is 21% faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 FE and 5% faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE. This example was done on purpose, to show you what can happen with older games, and games that don’t push graphics features or are CPU limited. Let’s bump it up to 4K through and see what happens.
4K
4K helps a great deal in this game by leveraging the performance better out of the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. Now the GeForce RTX 3080 FE is 59% faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 FE and 20% faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti FE. The margin of advantages will only increase with the resolution beyond 4K in favor of the GeForce RTX 3080 FE for games like these.
