3DMark and PCI Express

Let’s start with 3DMark’s Timespy test, we are running the standard version so you can run it as well on your machine and compare it to our result.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition Review 3DMark Timespy Benchmark Graph

The new GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition scores a total overall score of 16001. Comparing this number to the other video cards this is 45% faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition and 14% faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition. Keep in mind that 3DMark is more of a system test, with a focus on 3D, as it also counts your CPU into the score. What really matters though is game performance on the continuing pages, we just wanted to include this test since it is something you can also run on your own computer and compare your overall system score to our test system with the cards installed.

PCI Express Feature Test

There are a couple of important tests though that 3DMark has to offer, and one of those is a PCI Express Feature Test. This tests the PCI Express bandwidth in GB/s. Since the new GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition supports PCI-Express 4.0 we wanted to run this test and compare it with the other video cards.

This test has confirmed that PCI-Express 4.0 is working. With the other three video cards, they max out at 13.13 GB/s. However, our new GeForce RTX 3080 Founders Edition greatly surpasses them at 26.07 GB/s of PCI-Express bandwidth. That is a 99% improvement in bandwidth, which is exactly what we’d expect to see, double the performance. PCI-Express 4.0 is working great on the new GPU.
