Ubisoft has announced that its remake of 2003’s critically acclaimed Prince of Persia reboot, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, will not be making its originally intended release date of March 18, 2021. The time-manipulating action-adventure game has been postponed indefinitely so the development team can “deliver a remake that feels fresh while remaining faithful to the original.”

“Since announcing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake in September, we saw an outpouring of feedback from you on this beloved franchise,” Ubisoft tweeted. “It is your passion and support that is driving our development teams to make the best game possible. With that said, we have made the decision to shift the release for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake to a later date. This extra development time will enable our teams to deliver a remake that feels fresh while remaining faithful to the original.”

“We understand the update might come as a surprise and we will continue to keep you posted on progress of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake. In the meantime, we want to thank you all for your ongoing support.”

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake’s postponement isn’t too surprising based on the initial response it received. Announced during last year’s Ubisoft Forward, the game’s official trailer immediately drew criticism for its dated look and revised character designs. Many fans compared Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake to a mobile title.
