Gameplay Performance 1080p
In this review, we are going to test in two resolutions, 1080p and 1440p. The Radeon RX 6600 XT is positioned as a 1080p video card, however, we want to also see if it could potentially be viable for 1440p gameplay, or if it will choke. On this page, we will show all 1080p game graphs, and on the page, after this, we will show all 1440p game graphs. These pages will be long, so make sure to scroll through to the bottom. We are also including Ray Tracing testing in the games that support it on these pages, without DLSS or FSR. However, we have a dedicated page after the 1440p page that includes FSR and DLSS performance as well to take that into consideration.
Metro Exodus Enhanced
Metro Exodus Enhanced runs Ray Tracing regardless, and we have the game at 1080p with Extreme Shading Quality and Ultra Ray Tracing enabled running the benchmark. The XFX MERC 308 RX 6600 XT Black performs just under the EVGA RTX 3060 XC Black, that is until we overclock it, then it is on par in performance. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE however is much faster than all of them, faster by 38% compared to the next fastest result. As competition to the RTX 3060, the RX 6600 XT is doing ok, but it’s not faster until it is overclocked. In terms of gameplay, the RX 6600 XT is not playable at these settings either way.
Cyberpunk 2077
This is probably the game you might most be looking at, and in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p we are running the “Ultra” preset, no Ray Tracing in this graph. The first thing we can see is that the XFX MERC 308 RX 6600 XT Black video card is playable at 1080p here, providing just over 60FPS average. It provides a playable gameplay experience. It outperforms the GeForce RTX 3060 by 6%. It is also faster than the Radeon RX 5700 XT. Overclock it and performance increases by 8% which is commendable. However, it is outperformed by the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti by 23%. The XFX RX 6600 XT is 32% faster than the XFX RX 5600 XT.
Turning on even just “Medium” Ray Tracing at 1080p kills performance on the Radeon RX 6600 XT. It just can’t take even this lowest Ray Tracing setting at 1080p in this game. It tanks in performance and is unplayable. The GeForce RTX 3060 isn’t much playable either, but it is 55% faster with Ray Tracing. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is actually playable with Medium Ray Tracing at 1080p, and it is the only card here that is. This is without DLSS as well, when we throw DLSS in the two RTX video cards will get a lot faster.
Godfall
We are adding Godfall into the mix because it supports AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution also known as FSR. We will utilize FSR in the next couple of pages. This game also supports Ray Tracing as well, and we will show that below. At 1080p in the “Epic” Quality Preset, the XFX MERC 308 RX 6600 XT Black video card is very playable at 93FPS. It’s faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 by a lot and is also faster than the Radeon RX 5700 XT. Overclocking increases performance by 10%, which is pretty big. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is faster, but when you overclock the RX 6600 XT it now equals the performance of the RTX 3060 Ti. The XFX RX 6600 XT is 51% faster than the XFX RX 5600 XT.
Turning on Ray Tracing does not kill performance at 1080p. The XFX MERC 308 RX 6600 XT Black is still playable at 67FPS. However, the GeForce RTX 3060 is faster by 12%. When we overclock the RX 6600 XT performance increases quite a bit by 19%. However, regardless, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is much faster with Ray Tracing.
Dirt 5
In Dirt 5 at 1080p the XFX MERC 308 RX 6600 XT Black is playable at 94FPS. It’s just slightly faster than the Radeon RX 5700 XT, and it is 18% faster than the GeForce RTX 3060. Overclocking it puts it right under the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti in performance. Without overclocking it the RTX 3060 Ti is 15% faster. The XFX RX 6600 XT is 27% faster than the XFX RX 5600 XT.
Turning on Ray Tracing in this game also does not kill performance. The XFX MERC 308 RX 6600 XT Black is very playable at 80FPs and is 12% faster than the GeForce RTX 3060. Overclocking improves performance by 14%. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is overall faster, and without the overclock it’s 19% faster.
Watch Dogs Legion
In Watch Dogs Legion at “Ultra” settings the XFX MERC 308 RX 6600 XT Black is playable at 1080p at 71FPS. This is faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 by 13% and Radeon RX 5700 XT by 6%. However, the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is faster by 20%. The XFX RX 6600 XT is 50% faster than the XFX RX 5600 XT.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
In Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 we are using the latest patch which gives the game a big boost in performance due to better CPU utilization. The XFX MERC 308 RX 6600 XT Black is one of the better cards in this lineup for the game at 1080p “Ultra” settings providing 58FPS average. Overclocking it takes it over 60FPS. This is just slightly faster than the GeForce RTX 3060 but a much larger difference in performance over the Radeon RX 5000 series GPUs which aren’t as good in this game. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti still takes the cake though, it’s just a whole lot faster, 34% faster than the RX 6600 XT. The XFX RX 6600 XT is 35% faster than the XFX RX 5600 XT.
Horizon Zero Dawn
In Horizon Zero Dawn the XFX MERC 308 RX 6600 XT Black is very playable at 100FPS. It’s on par with the GeForce RTX 3060 in this game, and also close to the Radeon RX 5700 XT performance. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti beats it by 23%. The XFX RX 6600 XT is 32% faster than the XFX RX 5600 XT.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Red Dead Redemption 2 can be a demanding game, but it is playable on the XFX MERC 308 RX 6600 XT Black at 1080p in “Ultra” settings maxed out. Overclocking it brings it up a bit to 60FPS. This is faster than the Radeon RX 5700 XT and GeForce RTX 3060. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti still has a big advantage. The XFX RX 6600 XT is 36% faster than the XFX RX 5600 XT.
Wolfenstein Youngblood
At 1080p and the highest game settings, the XFX MERC 308 RX 6600 XT Black is very playable at 203FPS. Overclocking it improves performance by 9%. It’s under the GeForce RTX 3060 until it is overclocked. It’s slightly faster than the Radeon RX 5700 XT. The GeForce RTX 3060 Ti is still much faster. The XFX RX 6600 XT is 34% faster than the XFX RX 5600 XT.
