Test Setup
Please read our GPU Test Bench and Benchmarking Refresher for an explanation of our test system, procedures, and goals. Note that since the writing of that article, we have further upgraded our CPU to a Ryzen 7 5800X now. More information on our GPU testing can be found here. Check out our KIT page where you can see all the components in our test system configuration for reviewing video cards.
System Setup
We are using the motherboard’s default BIOS settings. However, we have manually enabled the PCI-Express Resizable BAR (AMD Smart Access Memory) in the BIOS.
For comparison, we have several video cards we are using in this review. We are going to use an AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT reference video card and AMD Radeon RX 5700 reference video card.
We are also using an XFX Radeon RX 5600 XT THICC II Pro video card which has had its BIOS updated to the new Radeon RX 5600 XT reference specification that came out after the launch shown here. It’s running at 1560MHz GPU frequency and 12GHz memory.
For the NVIDIA side of things, we are using an EVGA GeForce RTX 3060 XC Black Gaming video card. It is clocked at the NVIDIA reference RTX 3060 clock speed frequencies of 1777MHz and has 12GB VRAM. We are also using an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti Founders Edition video card. Every video card has Resizable BAR enabled.
Keep this in mind about pricing as you read through the performance sections.
