Gaming Performance

Given the price point of the RTX 3090 models and even other competitors such as the RTX 3080 Ti, etc. we will primarily be looking at the ZOTAC Gaming RTX 3090 Trinity’s gaming performance at 2560×1440 and 3840×2160, with and without DLSS or Ray Tracing. I’m sure there are people who do buy RTX 3090’s and run them at 1920×1080, but frankly, it doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

3DMark 10 – TimeSpy

3DMark 10 is a synthetic test and while it doesn’t necessarily correlate to anything real world, it does feature a number of interesting tests and is useful for stability testing as well as comparative analysis. Here, we can see the ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity coming in just behind the factory overclocked RTX 3080 Ti. However, the difference is almost within a run to run variance.

The 6900XT however, leads the ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity by almost 800 points. Not necessarily a monstrous difference, but a noticeable one. Finally, we have the overclocked ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity, which tops the charts at 18,163 3D Marks.

Watch Dogs Legion

In this test, our basic ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity achieves an average result of 84FPS. Comparatively, the RTX 3080 Ti OC from GIGABYTE achieves a slightly higher result of 88FPS which was an identical result to that of the overclocked ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity. The AMD Radeon 6900XT comes out way ahead here with a result of 97FPS. While this may be a game that favors the AMD card, it also does have a slightly faster CPU.

With ray tracing enabled, we see the ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity achieve a result of 57FPS which isn’t far behind the factory overclocked RTX 3080 Ti. When overclocked, the ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity shows a modest improvement of 3FPS, bringing it up to 60FPS which is really the minimum you would want for a smooth experience. Naturally, the 6900XT lags well behind the NVIDIA cards as its ray tracing implementation isn’t nearly as fast as NVIDIA’s.

Once we increase the resolution up to 4K, you can see how demanding Watch Dogs Legion can be with Ray Tracing enabled. In this test, the ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity only manages 34FPS at stock speeds which is identical to what we see with the factory overclocked 3080 Ti. Overclocking the ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity produces an increase of 2FPS which really isn’t much. AMD’s 6900XT doesn’t fare well here coming in at an unplayable 23FPS.

In this graph, we have basic 4K results without ray tracing with and without DLSS being enabled. Without ray tracing, AMD’s 6900XT and the ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity are close at 58FPS and 60FPS respectively. However, enabling DLSS increases the lead to 79FPS. That said, the 3080 Ti is a little bit faster at 61FPS without DLSS and 81FPS with DLSS enabled. Strangely, overclocking the ZOTAC Gaming GeForce RTX 3090 Trinity really had no effect with DLSS enabled but did show a modest increase from 60 to 64FPS without DLSS.
