Gameplay Performance at 4K

On this page, we are going to focus on the 4K gameplay performance with the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC video card.  We will test 1440p gameplay performance on another page. We will include DLSS and FSR performance on the same graph in the games that are supported.  We will use DLSS on NVIDIA GPUs and FSR on AMD GPUs.  Ray Tracing performance will be shown on a separate page.  For video card comparisons we are using a GeForce RTX 3090 Ti FE, GeForce RTX 3090 FE, GeForce RTX 3070 Ti FE, and Radeon RX 7900 XT.

In F1 2022 the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti is playable at 4K with maximum settings. It allows 127FPS, providing a smooth experience of well over 100FPS at max settings at 4K. In this game, however, it sits in-between the GeForce RTX 3090 and GeForce RTX 3090 Ti in performance, actually closer to GeForce RTX 3090 performance this time. It is 3% faster than the GeForce RTX 3090, but 10% slower than the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. Compared to the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti it offers a 41% performance uplift. The AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT is faster than the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC by 18%.

Overclocking the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC improves performance by only 2% in this game. It does not change the cards positioning. DLSS does add performance in this game, by 29%. It allows for performance at smooth 160FPS, so 140Hz gamers can really enjoy this game at 4K. With DLSS performance is right on par with the GeForce RTX 3090.

Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 was released in February 2022 on the PC and uses Techland’s C-Engine.  The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, and FSR2.  We use the built-in preset to set “HIGH QUALITY” which sets the highest game graphics, without Ray Tracing.  We manually enable DX12 and ASYNC Compute.  We use the built-in benchmark.

ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12GB OC Edition Dying Light 2 4K

In Dying Light 2 the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC allows a playable gameplay experience at 4K and the highest game settings, sans Ray Tracing. It can push 75FPS average, so gameplay is smooth above 60FPS at 4K in this game with this video card. However, the scaling doesn’t look as good as the two above games, as we actually find its performance sits below the GeForce RTX 3090. The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC is 3% slower than the RTX 3090 and 14% slower than the RTX 3090 Ti. In fact, the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT is actually faster by 5% in this game, a game where NVIDIA usually has a larger advantage. Compared to the RTX 3070 Ti the 4070 Ti allows a 38% uplift.

Overclocking really helps the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC in this game, improving performance by 8%. This 8% improvement changes the positioning of the video card, it is now faster than the RX 7900 XT by 3%. However, even overclocked it is still 7% slower than the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12GB OC Edition Cyberpunk 2077 4K

In Cyberpunk 2077 the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC is not playable at 4K and “Ultra” settings, it can push barely 50FPS average, and the game isn’t playable as the minimums are much lower. We also find that the performance is barely better than the GeForce RTX 3090, it’s about on par with it performance-wise. It is 11% slower than the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. Compared to the RTX 3070 Ti it offers a 44% performance uplift. We find the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT is playable in this game, at these settings, and is 17% faster. Again, this game typically does well on NVIDIA GPUs, but at 4K this video card is dropping the ball in this game, just like Dying Light 2.

Overclocking the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC improves performance by 7%, but it isn’t enough to make the game playable and doesn’t change the positioning. DLSS is the answer to allowing this game to be playable at 4K, as it improves performance by 13%. With DLSS, the game felt smooth and playable at 4K. When you overclock it with DLSS you can exceed 60FPS at 4K at “Ultra” settings.

In this game, the ASUS TUF RTX 4070 Ti OC is actually a little bit slower than the GeForce RTX 3090 Ti and 6% faster than the GeForce RTX 3090. It offers 58% better performance over the GeForce RTX 3070 Ti. SUMMARY

We reviewed the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti OC video card, putting it up against the competition at 4K, 1440p, with and without Ray Tracing and DLSS. Performance was strong at 1440p, and with Ray Tracing and DLSS, though it starts to fall off in performance as you approach 4K. It offers a good performance upgrade from the previous generation, but the overall price point for this class of GPU has risen to new heights as well. It is an excellent build by ASUS, and the power effeciency is second to none.
