Gameplay Performance with Ray Tracing
In this section, we use the same comparison setup, while enabling Ray Tracing features in each game. We also enable FSR or DLSS, again depending on the game and video card(s) used. As we enable Ray Tracing the game demands increase, usually dramatically.
Alan Wake 2
Keep in mind that with Ray Tracing on the “High” preset, the Path Tracing is enabled in this game at the highest level as well, and we can see what that does to AMD GPUs in the graph. It also means the lower-end GeForce GPUs are not playable either, even with upscaling. For this game, you won’t be running with Ray Tracing on this level of GPU at 1080p.
Returnal
The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile is smoothly playable here. It maintains a generous performance gap over the GIGABYTE RX 7600 OC as well, 21 and 19%. Upscaling boosts the performance dramatically. The overclock gains almost 10% here.
Forspoken
Ray Tracing has a significant performance gap in this game. Neither video card has the stuff without upscaling. At that point, only the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile can muster over 60FPS. The game is playable at that point. The Radeon RX 7600 falls behind by 40%.
Chernobylite Enhanced Edition
We see a similar effect in this game as well. The delta is almost identical for the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile compared to Forspoken and the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 7600 OC is reduced to a crawl. This has been demonstrated time and again in the Radeon video cards and makes one wonder if there is a software issue since the performance is so awful. The game is not playable without upscaling but improves nicely. Overclocking gains about 3% here.
Dying Light 2
Once again, the game is unplayable without upscaling. The GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile however is smoothly layable with DLSS enabled. Our RX 7600 OC also just touches the 60FPS line with upscaling. The gap is 40% here between the two cards. Overclocking almost boosts into playable and gives a 3% improvement.
Cyberpunk 2077
The framerate reduction is very obvious here. Again neither card has enough. Upscaling pushes the GIGABYTE GeForce RTX 4060 OC Low Profile into a playable result but just barely, still the gameplay is smooth-ish at this FPS. The Radeon RX 7600 just can’t compete in this game. The gap here borders on 50%.
