Overclocking the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition
To perform overclocking on our GPU we utilized the ASUS GPU Tweak III software (version 1.7.5.5) which is available from the support tab on the video card’s main web page. The software is very straightforward to use. There are very detailed instructions under the FAQ tab on the support page as well. 
We were able to adjust GPU core and memory frequencies, GPU core voltage, power target, fan cycle, and temperature target. Manual adjustments to the GPU are made from the “User Mode” tab on the home page of GPU Tweak III. The overclocking adjustments are made incrementally and tested initially across several games in the benchmark suite. After a final stable overclock is selected it is recorded in a lengthy manual run-through in Cyberpunk 2077. The run-through is logged into GPUZ. Below are screen captures of the default (left) and final overclock.
Final settings were: GPU frequency 2768MHz (+203), memory frequency 22504MHz (+1500), GPUCore voltage +30% and power target +15%. We did have fan control and temperature target control available but did not need to adjust those parameters. The fans were left on automatic. During testing, we were able to push the GPU Frequency to 2800MHz which resulted in a Boost clock of 3040MHz however the card was not stable in Forspoken. It was able to complete all the other benchmark runs otherwise.
Here you can see the result of the Cyberpunk manual run-through. The default average Boost clock frequency was 2761MHz and the average overclocked frequency was 3010MHz. Recall that the reference Boost clock is 2475MHz and the out-of-the-box frequency for the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition is 2595MHz. As a result of overclocking we gained 16% over the out-of-the-box card and a whopping 21% gain over the reference Boost clock. Without doing anything the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition factory OC allows an 11% increase over reference. Therefore overclocking gets us an extra 5%. We’ll see if that pans out in real-time gaming.
All in all, the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition was very easy to work with. It seems to be power-limited. We could not gain more by increasing the voltage beyond 30%. The power target cap seems to be the rate limiter. The video card is very well cooled, temperature was never an issue. The fans rarely increased beyond 47% cycle and were completely silent all through testing and our gaming run-throughs.
