Gameplay Performance at 1440p with Ray Tracing
In this section, we use the same comparison setup, while enabling Ray Tracing features in each game. We also enable FSR or DLSS, again depending on the game and video card(s) used. As we enable Ray Tracing the game demands increase, usually dramatically.
Alan Wake 2
Until upscaled none of the video cards is playable if using a 60FPS cutoff. This game is slow-paced and plays actually quite well at these low FPS, for the most part. The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition leads the way by 4 and 12% here. The results are preserved with upscaling and the game is nicely playable. Overclocking gains 8%.
Returnal
Returnal is quite fast without upscaling. All the cards are playable. The gameplay is very smooth. The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition is 15 and 18% faster here. Upscaling does add over 30% more performance. Overclocking gains us 5%.
Forspoken
All the cards are again playable here without help. The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition is 11 and 15% faster. Overclocking ups the FPS by 6%.
Chernobylite Enhanced Edition
This game shows the demands of ray tracing quite well. Only the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition is playable without upscaling and barely squeezes by. The difference here is 17 and 38%. Upscaling is very helpful allowing fast FPS. The PowerColor Hellhound Radeon RX 7900 GRE does get clobbered here, but this has been a consistent issue with Radeon cards in this game. Overclocking gains 8%.
Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 is a demanding game with Ray Tracing enabled. Once again without some help, only two of three cards are playable, plus neither gets out of the 60sFPS. The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition bests the competition by 15 and 30%. Upscaling is beneficial to all three cards by quite a good bit. Overclocking is a 6% improvement.
Cyberpunk 2077
The performance takes a pretty big dive with Ray Tracing enabled. Of course, this is “Ultra” settings. Nonetheless, none of the cards has the muscle. Still, the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition is 15 and 39% quicker.  Once upscaling is enabled the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER OC Edition and the MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Gaming X TRIO are nicely playable. The three FPS gained by overclocking is 6%.
