System Benchmarks
First, we will start with some system and rendering benchmarks: 3DMark, Cinebench 2026, and Geekbench 7. This will give us an idea of how the two CPUs compare outside of gaming.
3DMark

Starting off in 3DMark’s CPU Profile test, we can test the Max Threads performance between both CPUs. We find that the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 34% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, which is a very significant performance upgrade in all-core performance. Both CPUs have the same number of cores (8-core/16-thread), but the newer architecture and higher clock speed really improve multi-core performance on the newer Ryzen 7 9800X3D by a lot.

In 3DMark’s CPU Profile 1-thread test, we are looking at basically one thread of performance. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 32% faster in single-thread performance, which again is very significant.
Cinebench 2026

In Cinebench 2026, running the Multi-Core test, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 30% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, allowing much more rendering performance between these 8-core CPUs.

In the Single-Core test, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is again 33% faster, lending a lot better single-core performance.
Geekbench 7

In the Geekbench 7 Multi-Core test, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 23% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D.

In the Geekbench 7 Single-Core test, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 28% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D.

Join Discussion →Seems a big uograde.. but all the other costs make me think.. if i was on the previous Gen I would stick there. Make it a 2 gen leap to feel worth while.
I'm still on Zen3/DDR4 but right now sure as heck isn't the time to jump from that platform.
It is curious this Zen4 is being released now, and I'm actually surprised it's as competitive as it is (with respect to price/performance and all)
Could be yields that couldn't cut it at the 7800X3D spec. But they must have a lot of them to release it as a new SKU. I dunno.
Its a decent config for a budget gamer, or wanting a small, not power hungry, cool running build.
