Power & Temperature
On this page, we are going to explore the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D CPU power and temperature compared to the Ryzen 9 9800X3D. We will do full-load testing in Cinebench 2026 for Multi-Core power and temperature. All of our data has been captured with HWiNFO64.
CPU Power
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D has a TDP of 120W and a PPT of 162W, which is the same for the Ryzen 7 7700X3D. Due to the nature of the 2nd Gen 3D V-Cache, the Ryzen 9 9800X3D can run higher in frequency and can run closer to its PPT. Therefore, in our power testing, the Ryzen 9 9800X3D is running at 65W more than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, or 81% more power. In other words, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D is running at 45% less power than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. At 145W, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is not exactly demanding a ton of power; it is reasonable, but it is more, so be aware of that. This is also in a full-load, all-core situation; in games, it will use less power.
Temperature
In terms of CPU Temperature, there is a 10-degree difference. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D was running about 85c, or 10 degrees warmer than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D at 75c, a 13% difference.

Join Discussion →Seems a big uograde.. but all the other costs make me think.. if i was on the previous Gen I would stick there. Make it a 2 gen leap to feel worth while.
I'm still on Zen3/DDR4 but right now sure as heck isn't the time to jump from that platform.
It is curious this Zen4 is being released now, and I'm actually surprised it's as competitive as it is (with respect to price/performance and all)
Could be yields that couldn't cut it at the 7800X3D spec. But they must have a lot of them to release it as a new SKU. I dunno.
Its a decent config for a budget gamer, or wanting a small, not power hungry, cool running build.
Or more concerned with the GPU that's another 100 bucks you can put toward your GPU tier.
