Gaming Performance (Al-Do)
In our game performance testing, we are utilizing an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 FE video card. We are running each game at 1080p, Native Resolution, and we are using mostly the highest game settings. However, in Clair Obscur, we have lowered the game settings. We are using manual in-game run-throughs for each game and reporting the average FPS and 1% Lows. It is important to note the 1% Lows in many instances, especially in those where the AVG is close; the 1% Lows may not be. All games are running the latest versions. All graphs are organized from fastest to slowest, which means in this case the Ryzen 7 7700X3D will be at the bottom of each graph, highlighted in orange.
Alan Wake 2
In Alan Wake 2, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 11% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, but the 1% Lows are impacted to a greater degree. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is a whopping 36% faster in the 1% Lows! That’s a very large difference for the smoothness of the game overall.
Battlefield 6
In Battlefield 6, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is just 4% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D on AVG, but it is the 1% Lows that are the most affected. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 13% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
In Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is only a small 1% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D on AVG. But once again, the 1% Lows are affected more, by 6% here.
Crimson Desert
Note that for Crimson Desert, we are running the latest 2.01.00 patch, Crimson Desert Enhanced edition. In Crimson Desert, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is only 2% faster on AVG. However, the 1% Lows are greatly affected, with the Ryzen 7 9800X3D being 20% faster than the Ryzen 7 7700X3D.
Cyberpunk 2077
In Cyberpunk 2077, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 12% faster on average, and 23% faster in the 1% Lows, which again just makes the game even smoother.
Doom The Dark Ages
In Doom The Dark Ages, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D is 8% faster on average and the 1% Lows are about the same.

Join Discussion →Seems a big uograde.. but all the other costs make me think.. if i was on the previous Gen I would stick there. Make it a 2 gen leap to feel worth while.
I'm still on Zen3/DDR4 but right now sure as heck isn't the time to jump from that platform.
It is curious this Zen4 is being released now, and I'm actually surprised it's as competitive as it is (with respect to price/performance and all)
Could be yields that couldn't cut it at the 7800X3D spec. But they must have a lot of them to release it as a new SKU. I dunno.
Its a decent config for a budget gamer, or wanting a small, not power hungry, cool running build.
