Note that in all the graphs the video cards are compared by price. The most expensive video card by MSRP is on top, while the least expensive video card by MSRP is on bottom. In this way you can compare pricing from bottom to top and see where performance lies.
In the graphs we are using the latest version of Metro Exodus. The game is running in DX12 and we have all of the in-game settings at their maximum values for graphics under the “Extreme” preset. In this test PhysX and HairWorks are OFF. We are using the built-in benchmark for testing results and we verified playability in gameplay. Feel free to test your video cards performance and see how it compares against ours.
The two new Radeon RX 5700 video cards seem to be doing exceptionally well in Metro Exodus versus the competition. This result is different than the previous game, and frankly different from all the other games. This game by far shows the Radeon RX 5700 series in an extremely aggressive competitive behavior.
At 1440p with “Extreme” quality settings the Radeon RX 5700 XT is actually just as fast as the GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER video card. That’s a $399 video card equaling the performance of a $499 video card. Then you have the Radeon RX 5700 exceeding the performance or the RTX 2060 SUPER. A $349 video card beating a $399 video card.
We have to say that this is not typical, as you will see throughout the rest of the review. However, in this one game, AMD seems to have a major performance advantage. Is this game optimizations at work? Could be that the game is just better optimized for AMD GPUs, the fact is though, these performance levels are pretty impressive in this game at least. Though even at these performance levels, at 1440p you are not going to find the game playable. You will have to drop to “Ultra” settings to make it playable on the Radeon RX 5700 XT.
The same pattern seems to hold true at 1080p as well. The AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT is just as fast as the RTX 2070 SUPER and Radeon RX 5700 Is faster than RTX 2060 SUPER. At these performance levels the Radeon RX 5700 XT is a great experience playing the game.
