4K MSI RTX 3080 SUPRIM X Performance
Now we will tackle 4K Rasterization performance. Ray Tracing and DLSS are on a separate page. The MSI GeForce RTX 3080 SUPRIM X is shown in three ways. It is shown with the SILENT DEFAULT BIOS mode, the GAMING BIOS mode, and the OVERCLOCKED performance. The abbreviation DFLT. stands for DEFAULT. The Radeon RX 6800 XT and GeForce RTX 3080 FE are at default settings. All games are using built-in benchmarks where possible, where not, a manual-run through is used.
Cyberpunk 2077
4K at “Ultra” settings is quite a challenge for video cards right now. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT struggles the most here, as you can see. The only card that provides at least 40FPS or over is the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 SUPRIM X. There isn’t much difference between the BIOS modes, but both at least provide 40FPS, which is a little bit faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. The real boon is when we overclock the video card and gain near 8% in performance and several FPS. It makes 4K more tolerable, though still not exactly at the desired framerate for enjoyment. Compared to the Radeon RX 6800 XT the overclocked MSI card is 26% faster.
Watch Dogs Legion
In Watch Dogs Legion the MSI GeForce RTX 3080 SUPRIM X is also the best card for the job at 4K. It allows 55FPS average, providing a good experience at 4K. There is no difference between the two BIOS modes. Once we overclock it we gain 7% performance. It makes almost 60FPS possible at 4K with “Ultra” settings. It’s 16% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT.
Horizon Zero Dawn
In Horizon Zero Dawn the game is playable on all cards at 4K, but there is certainly a noticeable difference. Once again the two BIOS modes are the same performance. When we overclock the MSI video card though we reach a very high 10% performance increase. This brings performance up. The overclocked MSI card is 19% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT. The Radeon RX 6800 XT did worse at 4K in this game than it did at 1440p where it ranked higher. It seems moving to 4K was harder on its performance
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020
Unlike 1440p, at 4K we do see some differences in the video cards thanks to 4K being more GPU dependent and less CPU dependent. There is only a 1% difference between the two BIOS modes. Overclocking the MSI video card actually yielded a 6% performance improvement, helping a bit. The MSI card even at SILENT DEFAULT BIOS is faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE by 4%. The Radeon RX 6800 XT seems to do rather poorly in this game for some reason, it tanks into the 30’s at 4K here.
Red Dead Redemption 2
In Read Dead Redemption 2 the two BIOS modes are almost identical in performance. This is however faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE by 3-4%. When we overclock the MSI RTX 3080 SUPRIM X performance increases by 9%. That’s pretty significant at these levels. Look at this, 62FPS at 4K in this game, that’s pretty phenomenal for this game. The Radeon RX 6800 XT lags behind as the slowest video card at 4K.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint
In Ghost Recon Breakpoint there is again only a 1FPS difference between the two BIOS modes. But, overclocking the video card improves performance by 9% which is quite good. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT is playable, but is also the slowest video card.
Wolfenstein Youngblood
In Wolfenstein Youngblood there is no difference between the two BIOS modes. But this is 5% faster than the GeForce RTX 3080 FE. Overclocking the MSI video card improves performance by 8%. The AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT lags behind the most. The overclocked MSI card is 28% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT.
