Introduction

The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER refresh in the GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU lineup was announced at CES 2024, early this January. The new GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER has an MSRP of $599 and has improved specifications compared to the GeForce RTX 4070. The GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER will be replacing the same price point the GeForce RTX 4070 was at, while the GeForce RTX 4070 gets a price cut to $549. We detailed the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER in our NVIDIA CES 2024 Announcements article and detailed the specifications and performance of the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Founders Edition in our review.

Today, we have a full retail custom add-in-board partner card from ZOTAC, based on the new GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER. In our review today, we will take a look at the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Trinity Black Edition 12GB GDDR6X (ZT-D40720D-10P) video card, and also overclock it to see the potential within for enthusiasts. The ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Trinity Black Edition is an MSRP video card, meaning its pricing is set at the $599 price point, but offers a custom design and custom cooling from ZOTAC.

As a quick refresher, here are the details on the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER GPU. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER is based on the same AD104 as the GeForce RTX 4070, but with more cores, more cache, and a higher clock. The GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER has 56 SMs, 7,168 CUDA Cores, 56 RT Cores, 224 Tensor Cores, 80 ROPs, 224 TMUs and an L2 cache size of 48MB. The base clock is 1980MHz and the boost clock is 2475MHz. It has 12GB of GDDR6X memory at 21Gbps on a 192-bit bus offering 504GB/s of memory bandwidth. The TGP is 220W.

ZOTAC has an entire range of new GeForce RTX 40 SUPER Series video cards, with the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER variants. Under the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER line, there are three distinct models, one with a factory overclock, and the one we are reviewing today at the $599 MSRP. The ZOTAC Trinity Black Edition has reference clock speeds, a custom design, and a $599 MSRP. Above that is the Twin Edge and then the Twin Edge OC models and the OC model has a factory overclock.

We are taking a look at the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Trinity Black Edition 12GB GDDR6X today, which doesn’t have a factory overclock, but does have a very robust custom design build and cooling, so there is a lot of overclocking potential here. The ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Trinity Black Edition features ZOTAC’s IceStorm 2.0 Advanced Cooling and SPECTRA RGB Lighting. This video card operates at the NVIDIA reference clock speeds of 2475MHz boost with 12GB of GDDR6X at 21Gbps. TGP is 220W and ZOTAC recommends a 750W PSU. Inside the box you get a GPU support stand, manual, and really nice decal as well as the dual 8-pin 12VHPWR adapter cable.

The ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER Trinity Black Edition is a 2.5-slot video card and measures 12.1″ in length, 4.7″ in depth, and 2.3″ in height. This does make it larger than the Founders Edition, but as you can see this is a triple-fan design with a beefy cooler and full metal backplate, and air pass-through. It has 3x DisplayPort 1.4a and 1x HDMI connector.

The IceStorm 2.0 advanced cooling is built with precision-machined copper heatpipes made of composite layers with a thicker envelope and grooved wick with multi-channel working fluid. There is a counter-rotating center fan to reduce air turbulence and minimize noise with smoother airflow. There are vibration dampeners to keep the fans quieter in operation and they are dual ball-bearing. It also supports freeze fan stop to stop the fans from spinning at lower temperatures with automatic smart fan control. With ZOTAC’s FireStorm utility, you can also independently control fan speed. This video card also has a strong solid die-cast metal backplate for rigidity and an air pass-through system toward the rear.

When installed, there is bright SPECTRA RGB atop the video card, and it can be controlled in the FireStorm utility. You will also need a 16-pin 12VHPWR cable, or use the included 2x 8-pin adapter.
