Introduction
The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D CPU was announced at Computex 2026 in June and then released to retail as of mid-July 2026. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D is not a limited-time retail CPU or restricted to certain retail outlets. In fact, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D is a full production CPU from AMD, based on the previous Zen 4 architecture, on the AM5 platform, and is currently widely available at retail. The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D was launched with an MSRP of $329 and can be readily found today even below that MSRP pricing. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D is, in fact, the cheapest (in price) 8-core/16-thread AMD 3D V-Cache (X3D) CPU available today on the AM5 platform.
At its heart, the AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D is a Zen 4 architecture-based CPU, which means it utilizes the Zen 4 architecture released on the AM5 platform by AMD in 2022. This is the previous generation compared to the current Zen 5 CPU architecture series of the Ryzen 9000 series. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D is essentially a lower-clocked Ryzen 7 7800X3D, which launched in 2023. Since then, by generation, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D has superseded the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. What the Ryzen 7 7700X3D then offers is simply a cheaper entry into the realm of X3D-powered gaming on the PC, with an 8-core/16-thread configuration.
In our AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D Review today, we are going to take this new CPU and compare it against its Ryzen 7 7000 (Zen 4) 8-core/16-thread brothers to see where it fits in. This will include the AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Ryzen 7 7700X, and Ryzen 7 7700. We will also be including the Ryzen 7 9700X (Zen 5) CPU, as this should be an interesting look at what the Zen 5 architecture offers in comparison to the 8-core/16-thread configuration.
We will be showing some synthetic benchmarks, but primarily this is a gaming performance comparison. We will be testing 12 games and showing average FPS and 1% Lows FPS at 1080p with a GeForce RTX 5090 FE. We are interested in the performance uplift of the Ryzen 7 7700X3D over the Ryzen 7 7700X and Ryzen 7 7700. We are interested in how it compares to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D and Ryzen 7 9700X in the grand scheme.

Indeed, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D has 96MB of L3 X3D 3D V-Cache, totaling 104MB of cache, similar to the Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Otherwise, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D has a lower base clock of 4.0GHz (versus 4.2GHz), and a lower Turbo Clock of 4.5GHz (versus 5.0GHz). The TDP remains the same between both CPUs at 120W. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D also differs from the Ryzen 7 7700X in various ways. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D has a lower clock speed than the Ryzen 7 7700X. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D, with its 4.0GHz Base Clock, is slower than the Ryzen 7 7700X’s Base Clock of 4.5GHz. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D also has a lower Turbo Clock at 4.5GHz, compared to the Ryzen 7 7700X at 5.4GHz.
However, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D does have a higher TDP of 120W, compared to the Ryzen 7 7700X at 105W. The big difference, though, is that the Ryzen 7 7700X3D has 96MB of L3 Cache, whereas the Ryzen 7 7700X has 32MB. Interestingly, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D also has a lower Turbo Clock than the Ryzen 7 7700 (non-X) at 4.5GHz, compared to the Ryzen 7 7700 at 5.3GHz. However, the Ryzen 7 7700 is limited to 65W TDP. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D and Ryzen 7 7700 share the same MSRP of $329, so that comparison will be interesting.
It is also interesting to look at the Ryzen 7 7700X3D in comparison to the Ryzen 7 9700X, which is based on the newer Zen 5 architecture, but is a non-X3D CPU with 32MB of L3 Cache. The Ryzen 7 7700X3D has a higher Base Clock at 4.0GHz compared to the Ryzen 7 9700X at 3.8GHz. But the Ryzen 7 9700X has a much higher Turbo Clock at 5.5GHz compared to the Ryzen 7 7700X3D at 4.5GHz. However, the Ryzen 7 9700X is limited to a TDP of 65W, while the Ryzen 7 7700X3D is at 120W.
The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D comes in a large box, well protected, but no cooling fan is included. Like every other AM5 CPU, it is shaped and looks exactly the same and installed perfectly into our AM5 motherboard with no issues.
