Control
We are using the latest version of the new game Control. For our testing we are using the in-game quality presets for overall graphics. We are running this game in DX12. We are gathering real-world gameplay utilizing a custom run-through in the Cafeteria and Dead Letters area in the game with combat.
Apples-to-Apples
In this game, we are running the “High” preset which is the game’s highest graphics settings besides Ray Tracing. This game seems to be very graphically demanding on this video card. At 1080p we are averaging just 50FPS, overclocking helps a great deal with an 11% performance improvement. This generally makes the game playable, but as we will show below, dropping quality helps a lot more for making a smooth 1080p gaming experience.
At 1440p this game is not playable on this video card. We’d have to drop settings way below even medium settings. 4K is totally out of the question. Performance drops off really fast in this game between 1080p and 1440p.
Highest Playable Settings
To play this game well at 1080p we’d recommend dropping the graphics preset down one level to “Medium” settings. This allows a high 60’s average FPS and the game feels much more responsive. This is one game that just cannot run well at maximum graphics settings without either overclocking or lowering settings.
