GeForce Experience Updates
There are a few driver/GeForce Experience updates before we start with the hardware. There is improved image sharpening options which now work on all DX9/11/12 games with better performance and available in the NVIDIA control panel. Ultra-Low Latency [Null] mode now works with G-SYNC. GeForce Experience now supports the RESHADE modding community with new profiles for Ansel and Freestyle.
GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER Specifications
The GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER update is really easy to comprehend. Take the GeForce GTX 1660 and add faster GDDR6 memory to it and voila, you have the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER. What you need to know is what is or was the GeForce GTX 1660 before the SUPER.
The GeForce GTX 1660 was launched on March 14th of 2019. The video card has an MSRP of $219. The GeForce GTX 1660 is based on the Turing architecture at NVIDIA’s 12nm FFN manufacturing process. It consists of 22 SMs, 1408 CUDA Cores, 48 ROPs and 88 Texture Units. Because this is the GTX variant and not RTX, it does not have Tensor Cores or RT Cores. The base clock is 1530MHz and the boost clock is 1785MHz. The memory configuration on the original GeForce GTX 1660 is 6GB of GDDR5 at 8GHz on a 192-bit memory bus. It offers 192.1GB/sec of memory bandwidth. The TDP is 120W.
What does the SUPER offer then? First, it does have a slightly higher MSRP, it will be $229 MSRP. The GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER is everything the GTX 1660 is, same architecture, same manufacturing process, same CUDA Core count, same ROPs, same Texture Units. It is even clocked the same at 1530MHz base clock and 1785MHz boost clock. Where it differs, and what it adds, is 6GB of GDDR6 memory at 14GHz on a 192-bit bus. This provides 336GB/sec of memory bandwidth. The TDP is 125W.
That’s right, this is just a memory performance and bandwidth upgrade. With 6GB of GDDR6 at 14GHz, it offers 144GB/sec more bandwidth, or 75% more bandwidth. With that performance increase alone NVIDIA is claiming 1.5x the performance of the GeForce GTX 1660 original.
Also very important for the GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER is that it uses the newer Turing architecture dedicated hardware encoder NVENC. Turing’s NVENC offers improved encoding quality and performance for hardware acceleration. You can encode up to 4K 60FPS H.264 or 8K 30FPS HEVC. Turing’s NVENC is up to 15% more efficient compared to previous-generation Pascal NVENC and 25% for HEVC.
