ASUS DUAL RTX 2070 MINI Overview

Let’s talk about pricing. The official MSRP from ASUS is $419.99.  We are confident this will end up being the MSRP.  The reason why we say ‘end up’ is because as of this writing pricing was all over the price being listed differently at places. This video card is still currently out of stock and awaiting to come into retail and e-tail outlets. It’s a coming product and should be available at the beginning of May.  Due to current real-world events shipping and manufacturing are slowed down and prices not shown correctly in some places.

When we started writing this review prices listed were different, but they are changing by the minute. It seems Amazon is now the odd one out, listing the price at a whopping $499 right now as of this writing, which isn’t exactly going to be correct when it actually becomes available.  This is coming from a place called SpaceBound and is not exactly directly from Amazon at the moment.  As it becomes available direct from Amazon, pricing may change.

Literally minutes before publishing, Newegg changed its pricing, it was listed for $463 only from PlatinumMicro. Now Newegg has it listed at $419 coming directly from Newegg. B&H has it listed at the right price right now at $419.  As you can see it is a new item, coming soon.  We searched MicroCenter pricing and it also has it listed at $419 near us, but out of stock at the moment.  Therefore, we are confident $419 will be the right pricing when it becomes available from e-tail shops, that’s what it is supposed to be, which is a great price.

At $419.99 MSRP, this price is actually way less than the official MSRP of a regular GeForce RTX 2070 at $499 and Founders Edition at $599.  You are getting the same GPU, in a smaller package, for less money.  That is progress.  At $419.99 the price is comparable to the competition’s AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT at $399 MSRP.  Of course, there is no Radeon RX 5700 XT as small as this video card.

The ASUS DUAL RTX 2070 MINI was built and designed for Intel NUC 9 Extreme Kit, Intel NUC 9 Pro-Kit, and other small chassis.  This is the perfect video card for your small ITX build or mATX, but more-so for ITX.  It allows you to have lots of GPU performance for gaming in a small ITX platform, or Intel NUC 9 builds.

It does this by fitting into a 2-slot design less than 20cm (7.87 inches) in length.  This puts it in compatibility with Intel NUC 9 Extreme and Pro Kits and other small form factors as we discussed.  It also does this without sacrificing thermal performance and even provides a factory overclock to boot.

Fans

It uses a re-designed shroud and heatsink and heatpipe layout.  There are firstly two axial tech fan design fans, using ASUS Axial-technology. This allows them to intake air through the mesh side panel of Intel NUC 9 Extreme and Pro kit, and other chassis that have venting on the side-panel.  The Axial-tech fans have a smaller fan hub which allows longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure.  The fans also have 0dB technology to shut off below 55c for a quiet operation.  The fans are also IP5X dust resistant.

Engineering

The video card is engineered completely custom from ASUS with its Auto-Extreme Technology.  This is precision automated manufacturing that allows all soldering to be completed in a single pass.  This reduces thermal strain on components and provide a more reliable product overall.  ASUS also puts each card through a 144-hour Validation Program.  ASUS runs performance and stress tests with actual games and stability tests to ensure the card performs well when pushed to the limits.  This makes sure the card runs really well in tight spaces.  ASUS high-end custom hardware components are also used.

Enthusiast Control

The enthusiast is with this one, ASUS still allows you to actually manipulate your video card enthusiast style with ASUS GPU Tweak II.  You can adjust the power target and even GPU voltage, including fan speed and profile curves and hardware monitoring.  Even though this video is small, efficient, and meant for tight space ASUS still provides the ability for you to tweak it and overclock it. There is other software included also such as XSplit streaming software.

There is even just a touch of RGB, but not overdone.  On this video card, there is just a small splash of RGB with this illuminated strip that accents your build.  However, this RGB is not customizable, it is static and ASUS Aura Sync is not supported.  The colors it shows is all you will see.

Specs

ASUS DUAL RTX 2070 MINI Specifications

Here are the complete specs for the O8G version we are reviewing.  Note the size at 7.8 inches in length, by 4.8 inches in width and 1.5 inches in height.  For comparison, a Founders Edition RTX 2070 is 9 inches in length and 4.4 inches in width.  Therefore, it is shorter by a good deal, but it is just slightly more in width, but both are 2-slot designs.

It does require one 8-pin power connector and the recommended PSU is 550W according to ASUS.  This video card has custom I/O, it has 1x HDMI 2.0b, 1x DisplayPort 1.4 and 1x DVI-D.
