Default GPU Frequency

Before we dive into overclocking, we always test what the default GPU frequency is while gaming.  This way we can see where we are starting from and make sure the GPU is performing as it should be by default.

On this video card, the boost clock is set at 1650MHz.

Default GPU Frequency

ASUS has put a factory overclock on this O8G version, set at 1650MHz.  Our testing shows that the GPU clock frequency is not being held back by the video cards form factor and small size.  NVIDIA GPU Boost is indeed able to clock the GPU frequency even above the 1650MHz Boost clock.  On our graph, it starts as high as 1905MHz but drops down to performing between 1830-1875MHz most of the time.  The average of all this clock speed is 1858MHz.

This is good news and proves that the cooling solution ASUS has implemented on the video card is more than sufficient in keeping GPU Boost clocking higher than the rated Boost clock.  This means you will get great GPU frequency performance in your games that exceeds the rated Boost clock.

GPU Frequency versus RTX 2070 FE

GPU Frequency Comparison

Another comparison we wanted to make was to compare the clock speed on the ASUS DUAL RTX 2070 MINI with a GeForce RTX 2070 Founders Edition.  Remember, the Founders Edition has a GPU Boost rated at 1710MHz versus the ASUS card at 1650MHz.  We wanted to see how close the GPU frequency is to each other while gaming.

Well, according to this graph you can see both cards are very close to each other.  The GeForce RTX 2070 FE is naturally higher and gives us an average of 1898MHz.  Compare that with the ASUS DUAL RTX 2070 MINI average of 1858MHz.  You can see how close the averages actually are.  The RTX 2070 FE is going to produce higher game results, but the ASUS DUAL RTX 2070 MINI is not far behind and is only so because of its rated 1650MHz factory overclock versus the FE’s 1710MHz.  Form factor size is not holding it back.

ASUS GPU Tweak II

Above are the default ASUS GPU Tweak II screenshots with no changes.

GPUz

Above are the GPUz screenshots at default.  You will note the GPU temperature is 67c and that is with the fans on automatic at 52%.  That’s a good temp for a small video card.  Power Consumption is at 178.8W.  GPU Voltage is at 1.0620V.
