Conclusion

Well then. This review looks at the MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPRIM X 12G in both 1440p and 4K gaming scenarios. There is a good chunk of data here that’s for certain. We compared performance and other metrics to the Made by AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT. We did so due to the price point(s) at the release date of the cards.

Performance

Throughout our reviews of this current generation of video cards, some rough generalizations have begun to come to the surface. This review reflects those generalizations nicely. First of all, in head-to-head competitions, the Radeon RX cards are very strong in plain rasterized settings. In this review, the RX 7900 XT was faster by an average of 5% at 1440p and 9% at 4K. At 1440p we see that both cards are very strong performers in all the games and upscaling simply added more. The performance at 1440p is actually impressive and is undoubtedly why both of these video cards are touted as 1440p cards.

What is interesting is the 4K plain raster performance, as again both video cards have very playable framerates except in Cyberpunk 2077, where the MSI RTX 4070 Ti SUPRIM X just couldn’t get to playable even with upscaling. That being said, the technology of upscaling really shines through at 4K for these cards. The addition of 20 to 40% extra frames is all the difference and adds value to the product, no doubt. Keep in mind that the NVIDIA cards have an extra layer if you wish to use them in games that support DLSS 3 Frame Generation.

The second generalization appears in Ray Tracing, when you enable those settings the GeForce RTX cards start to flex their muscles. Here the MSI RTX 4070 Ti SUPRIM X was the faster card by 17.5% at 1440p and 15.8% at 4K. The exciting part is that both video cards were playable using Ray Tracing in all our games at 1440p. Chernobylite, Dying Light 2, and Cyberpunk required the help of upscaling to push the RX 7900 XT into playable territory, but the MSI RTX 4070 Ti SUPRIM X as well needed that help in Cyberpunk 2077.

Granted we are stepping a little bit out of bounds by asking these two cards to run Ray Tracing at 4K, but well, that’s why we play the game. There isn’t a single game that can be run in our suite here without upscaling. The MSI RTX 4070 Ti SUPRIM X was very playable in 5 of the 6 games. The RX 7900 XT could only cross the finish line in 50% of the games, even with upscaling. Upscaling is very impressive in this review. All in all, using upscaling improved the FPS across the board by an average of 30!!!! It was the difference maker in these two cards performing well in 4K resolution.

As we have said throughout, keep in mind that we set the game up at its highest possible settings. That is really pushing it. Obviously, the settings can be adjusted for the best outcome in your gaming sessions.

Overclocking

For the overclocking testing, we utilized MSI Afterburner. We were able to manually tune the power and temperature limits as well as the GPU and memory frequencies. Also available to us was GPU core voltage increase (which in this case allowed .01V increase over default). We were able to increase the GPU frequency +189MHz and achieve a final stable Boost Clock of 3005MHz. In real-time gaming, this gave us about a 4% advantage over the default settings. This result was better than the GIGABYTE GAMING OC but not as good as the ASUS TUF GAMING OC. Our highest (but unstable) effort was identical to the ASUS result.

As discussed, there was more there, just not in every game. I think voltage adjustment may be the solution there. The heatsink was very good at doing its job and the fans are exceptionally quiet.

Final Points

Today we evaluated the MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPRIM X 12G video card. We compared it to the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XT and looked at performance in 1440p, 4K, and with Ray Tracing and Upscaling. All in all, the SUPRIM X is a very well-built, heavy, big video card with a very tasteful design. It is very capable at 4K even in Ray Tracing. The performance at 1440p is also impressive, especially Ray Tracing. This card overclocks well and stays cool and quiet. Also keep in mind it has all the DLSS 3 innovations, which proved very impressive in Cyberpunk 2077. This alone adds another dimension to your gaming and also value to the card.

Prices have been falling on video cards lately, we’ve seen prices falling on both NVIDIA and AMD fronts. With prices fluctuating, be sure to check for the latest deals. At the time of writing the MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPRIM X 12G is $869 on Amazon and Newegg, making it a much better deal this summer. It has some stiff competition with the Radeon RX 7900 XT, but offers DLSS and DLSS 3 support, with better Ray Tracing, and MSI’s best-build GeForce RTX 4070 Ti-based video card MSI has. It has a very high overclocking potential and will function well for any enthusiast looking for exceptional 1440p gaming performance, or even some 4K gaming. If you want a top-of-the-line, superbly-built video card, this is it.
