Introduction
For your consideration, we have the MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPRIM X 12G video card (912-V513-078). The SUPRIM version from MSI represents their top-of-the-line in any given video card and is generally chocked full of the best components. MSI has given the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPRIM X a stunning brushed aluminum shroud and backplate, newly designed TORX 5.0 fans, a huge custom vapor chamber heatsink, top shelf board components, a dual BIOS and of course RGB elements front, top, and back, plus the highest factory overclock of all their RTX 4070 Ti video cards. This is the third RTX 4070 Ti we have had a chance to review. For a detailed look at the 4070 Ti GPU and what makes it new, you may look here.
Micro-Star International is a well-known brand. Producers of full systems, numerous PC components, laptops, monitors, and other peripherals they pretty much have all the bases covered. The RTX 4070 Ti can be broken down into three main groups. The SUPRIM is at the top, Gaming Trio next, and Ventus at the bottom. The SUPRIM and Gaming Trio have an X and non-X version, X denoting overclock. The Ventus is simply OC or not. In the RTX 4070 Ti, MSI also offers a white version of the Gaming Trio X and non-X. Overall, each group as you go up offers higher baseline clocks and overclocks, more aesthetics, more RGBs, and a bigger price tag.
Today we are reviewing a full retail boxed video card delivered from MSI. There is no Founders Edition of this video card, but the baseline MSRP is $799. The MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPRIM X can be found at $869.99 at Amazon and Newegg at the time of writing with availability. Prices have been fluctuating, so make sure to check for the latest pricing. This video card carries a 3-year warranty. Let us see if it performs as good as it looks.

Here we find that even the packaging of this video card is top-notch. The video card comes in a heavy box surrounded by dense form-shaped foam. There are accessories, which are placed in a separate compartment of the foam.
The fit and finish of our MSI GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPRIM X is excellent. The edges of the top shroud are designed to give a golden tint when they catch the light just right. The entire shroud, front and back is die-cast and brushed aluminum. The metal is over 2mm thick. Inside is another metal support due to the weight of the shroud and heatsink. The heatsink is a massive nickel-copper vapor chamber design that runs full length.
The fans are called TORX 5.0 by MSI. The 100mm fans are 9-bladed in three groups, connected by an interrupted outer rim. This apparently directs airflow more specifically and quietly. The fan cowls are raised slightly above the shroud surface to improve airflow. The BIOS is programmed to enable “ZERO FROZR” where-by the fans are stopped below a certain temperature. There is a dual BIOS switch, but it does not seem to affect anything except fan curves. The “Q mode” is aimed for Quiet, and the “P” for Performance. Even if nothing else, it is nice to have a backup BIOS.
When you pick this video card up, it’s heavy and thick. The design is identical to the 4080 SUPRIM X, measuring 13 ¼ x 5 x 3 inches. This nearly 4-slot card is however lighter than its 4080 brother by 12 ounces, weighing in at 4 pounds 6 ounces. The I/O is equipped with a 3 x rev 1.4 Display Port and 1 rev 2.1 HDMI. The RGB on the SUPRIM X is nicely subtle. There are chevrons flanking the fan ports, an “MSI SUPRIM” on the top edge, and a diamond on the backplate. The lighting is controlled by Mystic Lighting in the MSI Center software package download. Accessories are included in the box, as pictured, and include a large mouse pad, an aluminum support stand, and the three-headed 12VHPWR adapter. MSI recommends a minimum of 600 Watt PSU for the TBP of 285 Watts.
