Introduction

On our test bench, today is the ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 3070 AMP Holo LHR (ZT-A30700F-10PLHR) video card. Among the eight different cards that ZOTAC offers, the 3070 AMP Holo LHR sports the highest factory overclock of any RTX 3070 currently offered by ZOTAC. It is equipped with ZOTAC’s IceStorm 2.0 Advanced Cooling solution which includes two fans.

Like all other GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs, this card is impossible to find in the retail environment. The ZOTAC Store lists it at $929.99 at the time of publication. To get the card from ZOTAC directly, you’ve got to be in the right place at the right time to buy it (kind of like we were). Since ZOTAC is selling its cards at such a high markup, they tend to last a while when they are on sale. We’ve seen the card pop up from time to time on the NewEgg shuffle for about the same price. This represents a significant premium over the GeForce RTX 3070 Founders Edition card (not that you’ll find it for MSRP either). We will compare it to the AMD Radeon RX 6800.

The GeForce RTX 3070 GPU is based on the Samsung 8nm manufacturing process and NVIDIA Ampere architecture.  It has 5,888 CUDA Cores, 184 Tensor Cores (3rd gen), 46 RT Cores (2nd gen), 184 Texture Units, and 96 ROPs.  It has a GPU Boost Clock of 1725MHz.  It has 8GB of GDDR6 memory at 14GHz on a 256-bit bus providing 448GB/s of memory bandwidth. Total board power is 220W.

The ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 3070 AMP Holo LHR comes in a slightly larger than regulation size video card box that identifies it as a ZOTAC GAMING AMP HOLOBLACK RTX 3070 model LHR version which stands for Low Hash Rate. This card is capable of 25 MH/s ETH hash rate. Once we cracked open the box, we found a grey-clad GPU with turquoise to purple trim sporting two fans.

Specifications

ZOTAC has given the GAMING GeForce RTX 3070 AMP Holo LHR a factory overclock of 60MHz on the boost clock, bringing it from the stock 1725MHz up to 1785MHz. Keep in mind that the boost clock is a target based upon power, workload, and temperature and that value will typically be exceeded via the card’s boosting algorithm NVIDIA GPU Boost. It also sports 8GB of 14GHz GDDR6 memory that is equal in speed to the reference specifications. Power Consumption is rated at 240W on the card and a 650W PSU is the recommended power supply.

From a size perspective, it’s a moderate size card. While it is long, it’s not tall so your case doesn’t have to grow two ways to make room for it. Specifically, it is 11.5 inches long, 5.6 inches tall, and 2.3” wide. For an additional comparison, the GeForce RTX 3070 Founders edition’s length is 10.5 inches long and 4.4 inches tall, so the ZOTAC video card adds an inch to its height and depth.

IceStorm 2.0 Advanced Cooling

ZOTAC is utilizing its IceStorm 2.0 Advanced Cooling solution that sports an aluminum fin-stack array heatsink paired with six copper heat pipes. The heatsink assembly is cooled by a pair of fans that have been improved from their prior iteration by having 11 fan blades each, which ZOTAC states increases airflow by up to 10%.

The FREEZE Fan Stop function will stop the GPU fans when the GPU is idle and when they spin up, they operate at independent speeds thanks to ZOTAC’s Active Fan Control technology.

It also uses a new and improved heat pipe layout that increases direct GPU contact in a more densely packed space. The heatipes actually coil in and back on itself over the GPU to give it more cover atop the GPU directly.

Pictures and Information

The front of the card features two fans and green-ish purplish trim along the top that lights up with ZOTAC’s SPECTRA 2.0 RGB goodness. RGB can be configured using ZOTAC GAMING FireStorm software. The design incorporates ZOTAC’s HoloBlack design which is an inspired electroplated workmanship on a translucent flourish. It’s a unique design embracing an iridescent holographic finish. ZOTAC calls this their Ethereal Aurora concept. It’s a full two and three-quarters PCI-e slots wide and sports three Display Port 1.4a connections and one HDMI 2.1 connection.

The ZOTAC GAMING GeForce RTX 3070 AMP Holo LHR is equipped with a metal backplate with ARGB LED lighting. It is vented so it doesn’t trap heat.

The video card requires two 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors. ZOTAC recommends a 650W Power Supply.
