This one’s a THICC boi!
Introduction
The one thing we have all been waiting for is the release of custom retail add-in-board partner video cards based on the new AMD Radeon RX 5700 series. The AMD Radeon RX 5700 series was launched on July 7th, the Radeon RX 5700 has an MSRP of $349 and the Radeon RX 5700 XT has an MSRP of $399. We’ve finally got a full custom retail video card from XFX today to see how this compares to the reference video card and the competition.
Caution: Be wary of early reviews of this video card. There was a vBIOS issue at launch that may have put a negative spin on this video card due to fan profiles and power not being set correctly. This may have caused some negative reviews. Be sure to be aware of what vBIOS is installed for each review you read. Our review today is based on the latest fixed vBIOS from XFX so this is how the video card is supposed to perform. Let’s find out if this makes the Radeon RX 5700 XT interesting.

XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II Ultra Variants
We now have a retail custom add-in-board partner video card based on the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT. We are reviewing the XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II Ultra (RX-57XT8DBD6) video card, from XFX a great name in video cards producing multiple unique designs. XFX has many different variants and SKUs of Radeon RX 5700 series video cards. You’ll find one that suits you from the reference specs, up to factory overclocked specs with varying levels of cooling and features.
XFX has two different “THICC II” versions. There is the non-Ultra version shown here, and then the Ultra version shown here. The difference is twofold, power delivery and clock speeds. We will go over both in just a minute. Also, between those two there are two different SKUs of these products with different codes, for example, the Ultra version we are reviewing is RX-57XT8DBD6 and there is also an RX-57XT828D6.
These cards are identical, the difference is that each SKU is geared for a certain region or country. Game bundles and promotions may be different between them, but the cards are identical. You will find this exists for a lot of XFX cards, they might have two SKUs and be identical, except for the bundles and promotions. There are also two SKUs of the non-Ultra version.
XFX also has other variants of the Radeon RX 5700 XT. There is a “Raw II” model with a different heatsink and fan. There is also a reference card design that XFX sells. The “THICC II” model we are reviewing is the highest-end model XFX currently makes with the Radeon RX 5700 XT, and the “Ultra” version of that is the highest clocked version, which we are reviewing. This means the THICC II Ultra does have a factory overclock.
