Card Comparisons

The first thing we want to find out in this review is how much faster the XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II Ultra is compared to the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT reference video card.  Since it has a higher clock speed, we need to find out out-of-the-box how much faster it is.  Therefore, we are including a reference Radeon RX 5700 XT in this review.

For the competition, the water is a bit murkier?  The MSRP of a reference Radeon RX 5700 XT is $399, this would put the card in-line with the new GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER which also has an MSRP of $399.  So just based on that baseline, we will include a GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER in this review.

However, the actual card we are reviewing is $450.  NVIDIA doesn’t really have a video card currently at that price range exactly.  The RTX 2060 SUPER is $399 and the RTX 2070 SUPER is $499.  However, based on current street prices the RTX 2070 SUPER is actually well above $500, putting it way outside the price range of the XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II Ultra.  But, there’s another card!  There is the original GeForce RTX 2070!

Based on current online prices with rebates those video cards are right at this sweet spot right now around $450 and upwards, exactly in the price range of the XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II!  Therefore, to make the closest match in price, we are using a GeForce RTX 2070 Founders Edition as our main comparison.  It is price matched with the XFX Radeon RX 5700 XT THICC II Ultra, and the Founders Edition is clocked higher than a stock RTX 2070.  It will be a good test comparison to the XFX video card.  The RTX 2070 SUPER is just too pricy and well outside this price range.
